What are those tiny white spots that show up on the face called? (Not pimples!)

I tried Googling, but I can’t seem to come up with a name.

I remember reading once that they were tiny fat deposits. I recall reading that they show up around the eye, but I’ve only had them on other parts of my face. I also recall reading that they are fat deposits and that they’re a sign of something, but I can’t remember what. I’ve only had a few in my life but they are so satisfying to remove.

TMI under spoiler tag…

They look like tiny, white pimples, but do not pop, the object inside is pretty solid. You can, however, prick the skin and work the hard object out through the hole. The object itself is white and seems kind of rubbery.

So what are these things?

whiteheads

The medical term is a comedome.

That’s a whitehead? I thought a whitehead was just a little pimple that you could squeeze.

The description doesn’t match what I saw…

I’ve been acne-plagued my whole life, yet I think I’ve only had three of these. They are weird. The thing that comes out is hard, like plastic, almost. And usually almost perfectly round!

Also, what I might add is that they do not go away unless you physically remove them.

I’ll google whiteheads some more later, but in the meantime, if anyone has any other ideas, fire them at me

Now I’m thinking it’s milia.

So it is a type of whitehead. Hmm. I always thought a whitehead was the kind with the pus inside.

I need to brush up on my acne terminology since I seem to be having a lovely relapse

I know what you mean - I get them myself every now and then, and they’re not spots, whiteheads, or comedomes (singular comedo, incidentally, not “comedome”).

I believe “milia” is the technical term.

gotta disagree. They are little cysts called milia - perfectly harmless

whoops triple simulpost

I would guess milia, too. I have some around my eyes, some for years. Every now and again, one will decide it’s ready to come out, and it hurts something awful to pick them open. There’s a very hard, small white thingy that comes out, and in a few days heals right up.
According to my mom (a medical esthetician), they’re related to eczema. As with any advice, this is IMHO, and IANAD, but I’ve found since I’ve been more assiduous in moisturizing and exfoliating, I haven’t gotten any new ones.
