What are those unspeakable truths but too afraid to say them)

How can you be so sure? This comment should be in a reply to a thread in Great Debates about religion and after death.

A sad truth is that life tends to be easier for the beautiful people.

Life tends to be harder for stupid people.

Some ethnic groups are disproportionately represented in prison populations because they disproportionately more often break the law.

From the cover of American Splendor Comix #2

Guy 1: How smart is she? I dunno. Average, I guess.

Guy 2: Hey, man, average is dumb!

He has a point there. I hate capri pants too, but I gotta admit that Laura Petri was hot.

Or could it be that some ethnic groups are disproportionately represented in prison populations because they are more often CAUGHT breaking the law, or that the courts are more likely to send them to prison?

And I think life tends to be EASIER for stupid people me’self…they don’t worry so much about Life’s Big Questions and seem to be more content with their lot in life. It’s the smart one’s who tend to make life difficult for themselves.

kambuckta, I just wanted to know how more of a certain ethnic group breaking the law was worse than more getting caught? :stuck_out_tongue:

Some former colonies of European powers benefited from colonialism.

The fact that the ancestors of certain ethnic groups suffered horribly when they first came to America doesn’t change the fact that those ethnic group members are by and large way better off than they would be if their ancestors had stayed in their original homelands.

Orright Speaker f.t. Dead, I will admit that my suggestion can be taken in a couple of ways! I was not implying that some people are too stupid to evade detection!!! (Although sometimes I do wonder about the gross ineptitude of some criminal dickwads!)

The way in which I *meant * it to be taken was that sometimes, some particular groups are targetted by the law-enforcement agents, and this results in a disproportionate number of them being charged/imprisoned for their crimes. It is not that other groups do not commit those same crimes, it is just that they are less likely to be suspected and apprehended.

Recently here in Australia, there was a bit of a controversy about how some coppers were targetting young blokes of Middle-Eastern origin. They ended up being charged with offences as menial as having their car parked on an ‘off’ angle from the kerb! Now some of these kids did have more serious priors, and these were then added to the token parking offence to keep them victimised and paranoid.

It seems to me that some people are more likely to end up in jail, and that is not necessarily dependent upon the magnitude of their crime.

So there… :stuck_out_tongue: ;j :stuck_out_tongue:

Something my good friend Lynn Bodoni told me recently:

“Some folks just need killing.”

Hunting is noble compared to what we do to chickens and cows.

Some men would rather gaze at a saline-filled, skin-covered sac than real, though smaller, breasts.

Some women are so uncomfortable with their bodies that they’ll pay to have saline-filled sacs surgically implanted underneath their skin.

Priests should be allowed to marry. Period.

Schools fail because parents don’t care. It has nothing to do with money.

A lot of people would rather suffer some if it saves them the effort of actually trying to end the suffering.

In Texas, “He needed killing” used to be an acceptable defense in a murder trial, or so legend has it. In my view, if it wasn’t, it should have been—or still should be, rather.

The reaction to my post demonstrates that it is, indeed, an unspeakable truth.

No, it demonstrates that it’s a controversial statement about which people have strong opinions.

Honesty is a virtue, but you can’t be honest all the time, in a relationship or in general.

Most people’s kids are annoying.

On a more mundane level:

“Aunt Pat, you wear entirely too much jewelry. Lose a ring or three, will ya?”

It sure was convienient. Just when America’s voters weren’t pissed off about anything, Dubya’s pals in the oil patch made gasoline prices go through the roof. It sure was convenient, and it got him elected. My GOPper friends simply spit sparks when I tell them that, but it’s true. Imagine a ploy that would make a profit, AND get your guy elected. Wouldn’t that be heavenly?

Inky beat me to it…

“Oh my, what a beautiful baby!” is one of the ten World’s Greatest Lies.

It’s not what’s inside that counts, unless you’re a genius in some way, and in that case it only goes so far. What’s outside counts a whole hell of a lot more.

Most of us don’t care to hear about your baby. I don’t want to hear how much it weighs, how much it sleeps, how much it eats, and most importantly, I don’t want to know how much it poops.
