FTR, while I think the OP is being ridiculous, my post was acknowledging true evil that is being embraced by some of the GOP party. It’s being normalized and popularized, and it’s quite terrifying to watch it unfold over the last few years. but I was not in support of the OP’s sentiments. My hope is that the ideals of the GOP, as they are currently being courted, fade and die on their own foul merits.
Plus octopus is a fuckstain. I wanted to acknowledge that more.
For one, I don’t think asahi is pushing genocide. I think he, like the majority of the board that you moderate and should be aware of, are strongly anti conservative and anti republican and have been using language like this for years. Feel free to read through the Pit…
More importantly, you consistently and erroneously conclude that those who don’t share your particular connotations for language are somehow morally deficient. That’s problematic. Not everyone has the same education or worldview. Where I grew up, the language used on an hourly basis would get one banned from most of the internet in a heartbeat. Most of those folks didn’t think they were saying anything wrong.
Now if asahi was expressing a call to genocide I’d find that problematic. But I don’t think he was. Maybe I’m a moron or maybe I don’t mind giving people the benefit of the doubt.
Bone - what asahi said is wrong. I didn’t see this OP until today. If I had seen it last night though, my response would likely have mentioned heavy drinking and telling him to get off line. I don’t consider himrepresentative of the liberal viewpoint. That said,
iiandyiiii - Bone raised a good question the other day, about whether you (and I’ll apply that to me as well) tend to dismiss the experiences of conservatives on this Board. I’m still considering this. It has merit, and I’m trying to bear this in mind before I respond in political threads.
I’m sure I have my own biases that render me less capable of objectively judging certain circumstances and situations, and the complaints of conservatives may well be one of them.
The OP’s dehumanizing language is disgusting and unacceptable no matter the target (unless, maybe, the target is Nazis, or slavers, or the KKK, or rapists… if someone says “Nazis and KKK-ers are vermin” or “slavers and rapists are human garbage”, I would have real trouble condemning it – how about you, Bone? – but as a general rule, big groups of people, including Republicans as a group, should never be compared to vermin, insects, or similar).
You know that faux contrition/self reflection is disingenuous. It’s not like these exact issues haven’t been brought up for years on this board. Usually, it’s a regular poster and not a mod that says something and the response is invariably a deluge of insults and an organized assassination of character.
Things that distort markets in ways that 2nd and 3rd order effects cause great damage. Minimum wage, rent control, strong government unions, etc. I’m not unsympathetic to those who work or need money but there are better ways to distribute resources.
Maybe it’s just you. Maybe you get a ton of shit because of your own posts, not because of others. Maybe you should take responsibility for yourself, and stop blaming the board. Maybe you should put actual effort into all your posts, instead of only 5% or so. Maybe those conservative posters who approach things with thought and effort, and not lazy posts full of nonsense, are actually treated a lot better than those who routinely post information and effort-free silliness.
Ha! I think it was first or second post that got me mentioned in the pit. So spare me the bullshit. Some of you folks have 20 years of vitriol and hostility and ‘snark’ directed at others. Often for the most trivial and dishonest reasons.
I’m not going to go through all of these, but Little Nemo called out the dehumanizing language, specifically mentioning the path to genocide, in the first response. That doesn’t excuse those who ignored it, though. It is indeed important to call out such harmful dehumanizing language whenever one sees it, IMO.
This shitty post was called out, immediately, and multiple times, by multiple very prominent posters who are usually very critical of conservatives and Republicans.
More lazy nonsense. I’ve seen you put effort into posts, albeit less and less frequently. Why bother posting so much when you usually put so little effort into it? Just effort and cite-free swipes at the board.
It really is boring. You’re a boring poster who very rarely has anything interesting to say.
Uhh, yeah, at least by my memory. Bricker got a lot of shit, but considerably less shit than octopus, Starving Artist, and Clothahump, by my memory. Bone doesn’t get much shit at all, AFAICT. Do you disagree?
Let me add to my previous post that today’s Republicans are all too guilty of regarding people they dislike as being things, or at least being some lesser caste of beings.
Turnabout is not fair play; turnabout is willingly partaking of the same sickness.
I’d get a whole lot more worried about the ‘dehumanization’ of the republicans if this wasn’t the fucking pit, you pusillanimous worms. Man up! Or bug up, as the case may be!
As for what to do with the inhuman humans in question, if I had godlike power, I would shut down their access to social media and sensationalist news. And your access too! And yours, I see you hiding in the back! Nobody needs that shit. (That’s right, I’m coming after the first amendment. Some lies don’t need to be spoken.)
Without their intravenous feed of bullshit, they would gradually starve of hatred, some of them might eventually become so desperate as to read the dry, tasteless fact-only newspapers that would survive the purge. This would force them to be at least AWARE of reality as it actually exists, and being a charitable, loving person I suspect that a significant percentage of the disgusting worms in question would transform into decent, upright, possibly slightly racist/bigoted people. Okay some of them would be a lot racist and bigoted, but they’d be racist on their own not on the basis of lies fed to them by republican mememakers.
Wait, hold on, my monitoring doctor is telling me I’m not actually god. Well, damn.
That failing, the only obvious approach would be to find the half-dozen remaining honest people, and elect them to office, where they will promptly impeach and arrest every damn criminal and traitor in government, which will gut the republican party. Then efforts can be made to roll back the damage done. The only problem with this plan is that honest people avoid government positions like the plague, it seems.
“Bricker got less shit than Starving Artist,” is not exactly a high bar to clear. He still collected a ton of shit, and most of it was pretty undeserved, at least from where I’m sitting. Of course, where I’m sitting also lets me see all the posts from conservatives that get reported as “trolling,” and it’s pretty nearly all of them. So that might be coloring my perception. But if I were at all right of center, I sure as fuck wouldn’t share it on this board.
That’s because Bricker stopped posting, you bubble inhabiting fool. Plus you enjoy stirring stuff up here. Often with the same sort of short and cite free posts you criticize.
iiandyiiii, the genesis of the ‘shit’ I get is the fact that I am unapologetically for strong first amendment principles. That’s the funny thing, you so-called liberals aren’t.
Bone: Did you notice that I didn’t respond to the OP to either agree with it or condemn it!? I responded to another posting, and I wasn’t aware of a board rule that you can’t respond to a later message in a thread without taking a position on the OP, especially when other posters had already done so. I didn’t say Republicans were insects or vermin, and I agree that dehumanizing language is inappropriate.
What I did say was that if someone calls me a libtard or traitorous for taking a non-Trumpian political position, I’m not going to shrink from calling them a deplorable or delusional (but not vermin, insect, or the like) out of fear that they will lose respect for me, as they clearly never had it in the first place. Again, that was in specific response to a posting other than the OP.
All that said, I was heartened to see that you included octopus in your list. He actually staked out a position on dehumanization by calling liberals non-player characters, literally non-human.
