What are you doing for Lent this year?

Good Luck! I am on my 15th attempt to quit over the last 20 years. I hope to make it this time and hope you do to. It has been a few months and I’m finally feeling like a non smoker for keeps.

I gave up buying any clothes or shoes for Lent. I try and make it something that will be fairly hard to give up that is something I need to work on.

I decided to give up swearing for Lent, but it isn’t going well (partially because I’m not giving up alcohol). At least most of my swearing was on Sunday when I had a web programming project due at midnight and I had a serious bug in my code. Fortunately I found it and finished with 10 minutes to spare.

Coffee at work (we get free and very good coffee from a WMF Presto - I drink some 8-15 mugs/day).

I deliberately resolved ‘at work’ - cannot do without a cup at breakfast and after dinner.

Unhealthy breakfasts. I love doughnuts and poptarts! I’ve been eating normal unflavored oatmeal (boring!) for a few weeks now.

Why don’t you flavor it? I find I cannot eat oatmeal without a least some cinnamon and sugar (I actually prefer the oatmeal packets that come with fruit).

I’m committing to:
– meatless Fridays (I’m not Catholic so this is optional)
– a weekly small group bible study with some friends from church (which I will likely continue past Lent)

I’m giving up websurfing. Working, ummm, not so well akshully . . . [insert cute kitten pix here]

It has been ever so much harder than I could have imagined. This is a seriously ingrained habit, and I’m going to keep at it until I make 31 days straight, even if it takes all year.

Yikes!
