I give Michelob credit for trying with their multiple quasi-artisanal varietals. A few (many) years ago I hit a stretch of drinking lots and lots of Old Milwaukee Red, an ale variant they had out for a brief while, which IIRC won a Consumer Reports or the like taste test in its category.
Snobbery doesn’t pay and is as restrictive as domestic provincialism. Smirnoff Red won the N.Y. Times vodak taste test and to the extent there is any meaningful variance/differentiation among neutral grain spirits – I can’t dispute that and won’t pay for Grey Goose or worse/more expensive.
After being pretty down on all of the New Belgium beers I’ve tried, I’ve started to warm up to the brewery. I’m drinking their Abbey and Tripel now, which, fortuitously, is actually cheaper than Fat Tire of any of their other main beers (2 Below, Skinny Dip, etc.) Fine with me, as I’m not a fan of Fat Tire.
A New Belgium Trippel, more specifically half of one that I’m splitting with my husband. I wish we still had some Deschutes Obsidian Stout, but beggars can’t be choosy! Maybe I’ll have the leftover of an extremely underwhelming bottle of Argentinian white wine that I got at a restaurant yesterday (it was half price bottle day and I selected the cheapest one in lieu of just a glass- I got upsold). Or maybe I’ll save it to cook with- there’s only about a cup left.
Ruby red grapefruit juice - and I don’t know why. I seem to get specific hungers for certain foods and lately I’ve been on a grapefruit juice, bagel and bacon binge. I do try to keep my bacon consumption to 5 strips per day though. I exercise no restraint whatsoever on the grapefruit juice.
I adore this typo, and how fitting, like if you saw a coffee substitute and they weren’t allowed to but the word coffee on the label so they called kaw-fee or something. Yellowtail: It’s not quite shiraz, it’s shiroz!
I’ve got an open and rapidly disappearing bottle of 2004 Chateau Reignac. Perfectly drinkable, and the bitter edge is going nicely with this hunk of bitter dark chocolate I’m gnawing on because making dinner seemed like too much effort.
Twinings Darjeeling with a splash of half&half and some milk. Theoretically it doesn’t really make any sense to do it that way but it does taste better.
Salada Orange Pekoe with a dash of milk and one Splenda. Tonight, several poor man’s sangria-any merlot mixed 1/3 wine, 2/3 Polar Diet Orange soda over ice.
