What are you giving up for Lent?

What am I giving up for Lent?

My Judaism.

I’m not giving up anything.

I’m going to watch the movie Chocolat for inspiration in not giving up things. Like the young priest said, it shouldn’t be about what you give up. It should be about what you embrace.

I wish I could see the *Passion * movie, but I know I’m not going to be able to take it.

Do you think this was a sign?? On Ash Wednesday at my church (which happens to be United Methodist) we write something on a little piece of paper that we want to work on, or a problem or something like that. Then we each go up to the altar and put it in this urn that is burning. It is really cool–you burn your problem in the urn. Then kneel and have the ashes put on your forehead or hand (made from last year’s palms).

So the next day I went to the library and checked out a book on how to win over procrastination–a problem of mine, yet not what I put on my little piece of paper. Later on that day I was going into the church (I work there…) and found someones little “sin” paper on the sidewalk. I picked it up and it said “procrastination.” I think this was a sign to me to stop procrastinating. Or else some person didn’t feel like going up to burn their paper and then it fell out of their pocket.

I really don’t believe in signs, do you?

:dubious:

I gave up nicotine, cigarettes specifically. I feel like I cheated though. I went to visit my girlfreind and she didn’t want me ‘nic fitting’ while I was with her. Since I hadn’t seen her in 11 weeks I agreed. So I “used up” my Sundays and now I need to go for another 29 days without nicotine. Violence may ensue.
Peace out

So far, I’ve done so poorly with my nail-biting and not posting so much to the Dope that it appears I’ve given up nothing for Lent.
