What are you giving?

For this year’s Christmas, I’m giving:

Scrapple, fig spread, spiced cookies, and Carrie Underwood’s CD to my folks.

to my brother and his wife and kids: novelty bandages from Archie McPhee; to my brother’s MIL, a candle.

To my friends: a Mimi’s gift card, a U2 2005 Vertigo Concert DVD, See’s candy, and…Advil Liquigels (it’s a long story).

To several neighbors: some Honeybaked ham and homemade Chex mix.

To a cousin: a candle and some more Chex mix.

To my wife: books & DVDs

To the children: shoes, a digital camera/printer combo, & DVDs.

Our friends all got gift baskets filled with home-made goodies: Cumin-Cured olives, mead, cookies, mustard, etc. Their kids all got Terry Pratchett books.

I got the wife: additions to her collections, DVDs, clothing, and books.

The cats got new toys and catnip.

Mom is getting a new piece of furniture for her new house, when she gets moved in February.

Ex-fiancée: A blue tea pot, a mug with a blue cat and a mouse on it, another mug (the store gave that one to me), a little tin that matches the tea pot and the first mug, two ounces of very high quality loose Earl Grey tea, a decorative and functional tea strainer, a box of Trader Joe’s Cocoa Almonds, all packed into a wicker basket I picked up at Pier 1 Imports and wrapped with red Saran Wrap. Plus a printoff of George Orwell’s A Nice Cup Of Tea and the section of the newspaper that has the photo of me on it. And the stained glass wolf that picunurse made.

Sister & BIL: A fax machine.

Nephew: A Hot Wheels play set, two additional Hot Wheels cars, and a ‘best of’ Thunderbirds DVD.

Shayna and Spiny Norman: A laminated satellite map of Northern Washington and Southern British Columbia, two sweatshirts that say ‘The beatings will continue until morale improves’ (one blue, the other tan), and a tin of pirate (skull’n’bones) adhesive strips (‘band-aids’).

Apparently not enough. Granddaughter (age 5) asked “Why did I only get two presents?”

If she still asks that question in a couple of years, we’re gonna have a little talk.

We gave DVDs, CDs, calendars, restaurant gift certificates, golf balls, liquor, money, gift boxes of steaks and chops, dolls, pajamas, video games, Gerber tools, slippers, a coat, an Elvis pillow, stuffed animals, Yankee candles, and books.

Okay, here goes: A large fruit arrangement in a footed glass bowl, a large fruit basket, and snack basket with homemade goodies, a Caboodles professional makeup case, a “casino” piggy bank, Bath and Body Works “Juniper Berry” body spray and lotion, two sets of lounge pants and long sleeved t-shirts, a multi-tool, a first aid and snakebite kit for backpackers, a mini fridge, a papasan chair, video games, dvds, lots of pictures in frames, a giant stained glass and wrought iron cross, blown glass Christmas ornaments, T-Rex Mountain and assorted Imaginext Dinos, personal salt cellars, and a large tin snowman bucket filled with walnuts and pecans. My whole family exchanges gifts, so Christmas is wild around here. Thank goodness we all decided to stay on the vanilla side with the gift exchange this year. I don’t know that my grandmother could have handled another year like the one with the red sequined g-string and the 3 foot rawhide bone. There were some inappropriate uses suggested for the mini lava lamp, though.

We only buy gifts for the kids in our family.
For the 16 year old: Straightening iron, baking supplies, DVDs, books, clothes, socks n undies, a calendar, and a big canister of pocky. In her stocking she will find earrings, a can of green tea, make-up, incense, pez, a “lifesavers story book”, a snowglobe, and chocolate “coins of all nations”.

Our 1 year old (as of tomorrow!) has tub toys of all shapes and sizes, a play piano, books, and a few other toddler style toys. Santa brought her a Clifford ride-on toy. Since she decided to wake up at 11 she’s already discovered it and loves it! In her stocking: a light up kooshy ball, some little bags of cookies and crackers, her first pez dispenser, a Barney video, and a toothbrush.

For my mom: Pink satin PJs, a pink terrycloth bathrobe and Isotoner ballerina-style satin slippers. Mom’s in her pink phase.

For my dad: Two shirts and a pair of jeans.

For my sister: A pair of boots (she’s wanted black zip-up boots for years – I finally found them in a 12 wide!) and a paint set she’s been wanting.

For my brother: a navy blue sweater and the complete first season of Gargoyles on DVD (which he already had. grumblegrumble I’m trying to exchange it for the second season)

For Grandma: an Alfred Dunner shirt. She loved it so much that she cried when she opened it.

For the wife: New desk chair, Halo for PC, noise-cancelling headphones, Melissa Etheridge fan-club only GH package [rip off!], three novels, and the three LOTR EE DVD gift sets with the figurines and such.

The MIL: Sam’s Club membership.

The FIL: Electric shaver.

Nephew-in-law #1: Need for Speed: Underground for PS2.

Nephew-in-law #2: Remote control car.

Nieces-in-law #1 and #2: Cash.

Might as well mention donations too:
I gave three books to the Starbucks book and toy drive.

WAG: A Hard Time?
