What are you listening to at the moment?

Heh! I remember that video. I was just an adolescent at the time of its release and hadn’t ever heard of that Squier guy before (or after, for that matter). Honestly, the video just kinda blended into the poncey femme-boy aesthetic of early 80’s music videos along with the likes of Boy George, etc. The music seemed rockier but other than that, it didn’t really stand out.

Years later, I’d heard that the video had killed his career and that he was quite bitter about it. According to Squier, he and the video director had huge fights over the production with Squier wanting a macho, cock-rock video and the director pushing for his gay pajama party theme. Eventually, the director won out and Squier had to go along with it (contractual obligations?)

Of course, this was only Squier’s side of the story so he may have been engaging in a little historical revisionism.

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.

Fantastic CD.

This very moment - Finger Lickin’ Good by The Beastie Boys. Overall I’ve been listening to a lot of Matisyahu, The Cramps, and The Misfits again lately.

And, I’ll just throw a link out to the SDMB last.fm group.

I had to rejoin a month or two ago after the plug-in just outright died on me.

I remember actually seeing it on MTV back in the day, it really killed his image. I still love his music.

Right now I’m listening to Peter Gabriel’s “Steam” and trying to type this while not getting up and dancing.

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.

Was listening to that earlier tonight. Favorite tracks: “Star Witness,” “Hold On, Hold On,” “John Saw That Number, " The Needle Has Landed.”

While putting my taxes together, I had on:

Pinkerton - Weezer
Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie
Secret House Against the World - Buck 65

I also just wrote a music review of a band from Vancouver, Young and Sexy, and their new album “Panic When you Find It.” Great stuff, especially if you like Belle and Sebastian or any of the boy-girl indie rock of the past few years.

Armin van Buuren - A State of Trance 2006
Tiësto - In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles
Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins
The Dears
Massive Attack

Various downloaded Strokes tunes for “new” stuff.

Broke out some old Pere Ubu tapes I had last night. Gotta get the disks.

Heard the new David Gilmour tune on the radio a couple days ago. It didn’t make me want to listen to new David Gilmour, but I popped in Floyd’s DSotM and WYWH.

A Julian Bream classical guitar album, forget the name.

Charles Mingus, Ah Um

Underworld’s Second Toughest in the Infants

Hamlet (2000) soundtrack
Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack
Rich Cox–Designer Fetish
Duran Duran—Decade

Ghost Town by Huns and Dr. Beeker. It’s very appropriate.

Exactly my favorites as well.

Still on Johnny Cash. Just listened to Long Black Veil, and it struck me that maybe that woman – the one he died for – should lay low for awhile instead of roamin’ the hills in that veil. People might get suspicious, wonder why she’s actin’ so sad and all. Don’t want him to have died for nothing.

Just finished listening to Mariko Kouda singing the ending theme from Marmalade Boy.

Now I’ve got Warren Zevon and Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Oh, and I just voted Dixie Chicks off my musical island.

Gogol Bordello–Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike

“Start Wearing Purple” is playing right this very moment.
