What are you listening to? -or- Maybe it's good you're stuck back here.

The thread title came about because Spinner has SEVERAL blues channels, including LOTS of stuff recorded before electronic microphones ruined everything. My boss does not share my enthusiasm, but he’s the one who moved me back here where I can make nearly as much noise as I want.

Hope this is an appropriate reply. Probably not.

New Ancient Strings by
Toumani Diabate

Actually, I have no idea what an appropriate reply would be. Was I soliciting what others were listening to? Was I bragging on my T1 line at work that allows me to listen to net radio instead of the crappy Top 40 Country they’re playing over the intercom? Or was I just quoting my boss?

So I checked out your suggestion. Rycodisc has some samples. Yeah! That’s how the New Age guys WISH they could sound if they had the talent!

I, too, have been moved to where people of lesser musical acumen don’t have to suffer at my choices.
Today: Massive Attack “Mezzanine” mixed with Tricky “Maxinquaye”, then a light palate refresher of Sigur Ros, finishing up with a dub tape of capoieda jotos a friend made for me outside Sao Paulo last year.

One time I was at my old desk listening to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and someone walked behind me and exclaimed “Aren’t these the guys who did that Lifesavers commercial?”
Well, YES, but…

Brian Setzer Orchestra. I’m in the back today too.

Glad you liked it. This was one of those dead-lucky purchases. I was looking for something by Foday Musa Suso, a well-known kora player. Not finding any, I picked up the Diabate album. It’s what I listen to at work when I copyedit.

Perfect thread for this one. Metal fans will either cheer or jeer.

Pantera - Power Metal

Toumani Diabate is some good stuff. I own Djelika (sp?) and love it.

I love my office! My boss is never here, I can see all the way down Michigan avenue,

and I can listen to Howard Stern and the best of Steve Dahl at a blaring level, laughing as loud as I want at the raunchiest jokes!

jarbaby

Holy Shit! I think I’ve found family here. This is truly amazing.

Well, this’ll be bland in comparison but:
Best of En Vogue, specifically “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It”. Any body wanna go clubbin’? I can’t sit still, ready to dance!

I love net radio. We’re not allowed speakers, so I have it on headphones, set for Vintage Rock right now. Normally, I have it on the Singin’ Swingin’ 40s as mentioned in my Spike Jones thread but it keeps returning a “cannot connect” error. From 11-2:35 Eastern, I listen to the Paul Harris show on KTRS (550 AM, St. Louis) via Yahoo! Radio. I’ve been a fan of Paul’s since he was “Harris in the Morning” in the DC area.

Know any good stations for,
Glenn Miller, Bee Gees, and Celtic Music?
How’s THAT for variety?

Old Elton John, the Alabama All-State Choirs of 2001, Stabbing Westward, and Paul Weller.

I got your eclectic mix right here.

Mom made me close the door before she went crazy from my “loud music.”

Karl Blau, kind of folk/rock from Olympia, WA. This guy is awesome. Do me a favor and check him out.

An awesome band, a great album:
Fantastic Planet by Failure.
why did they have to break up???

Failure was a kickass band.

I saw them on the FP tour in Atlanta. Rock solid.

Don’t have a comment, really,

Just “Dropped in to say I love you”
