Baby’s arrival in April!!!
Looking forward to my move to Maryland, when the paperwork can finally get itself straightened out. A new job, a new apartment, and I’ll be just a half hour drive from my boyfriend - a step up from the 600 miles separating us now! Unfortunately I don’t have a time frame, because it depends on whether there will be new surprise hoops for me to jump through once I have the latest part done. But it’s getting close. I can feel it.
On a shorter term, I’m looking forward to seeing my grandmother this afternoon. It’s been a couple of weeks and I miss her. She misses me too. I can tell because she ordered me to pick up as many pastries and goodies as I can carry, so we can get fat while we drink tea and chat.
Although I can accept that this list is pretty trivial, and may have a lot to say about my life and my values, these are the things that come to mind in response to the question. In chronological order:
- a new Episode of Rome tonight
- a new episode of 24 tomorrow night
- new episodes this next week of House, Boston Legal, Bones, Medium, Survivor and maybe boxing on ESPN2 and HBO
- the NFL draft
- the final season of The Sopranos
- the return (final season) of The Shield
- football season
That’s about as far out as it goes today.
Getting rid of this cold.
My husband to get over his cold so I can get laid, dammit.
A whole week of vacation for the first time in years.
Paying off two of the three credit cards this year.
My company completing it’s software conversion so I can go back to 40-hour weeks.
That bottle of wine downstairs.
Last week I was looking forward to getting our tax refunds. Now they’re here, and that is a good feeling.
Things I’m currently anticipating, with pleasure:
- The new season of The Amazing Race. (Starts tonight!)
- Having some friends come over and spend the day tomorrow. (We rarely have company because we’re clutter-y and lazy, so it’s always a treat to have people visit when the house is clean.)
- Making some fantastic Spinach-Artichoke dip, and eating it.
- Getting the call, either tomorrow or Tuesday, that my new Chevy HHR is on the lot and I can go get it. It’s the first time I’ve gotten to choose a brand new car, with all the features that I want. Whee!
- Picking out a new cell phone for cheap, when my ‘New Every Two’ deal kicks in on Thursday.
- Going to Georgia in April to see my in-laws. I like them.
- Getting pregnant. Soon, I hope!
My spring break trip - hurry up and come!
Wow, this thread grew fast. I won’t be able to respond personally to you all, but thank you for your thoughts. Please keep them coming. Some of the ones I’ve found helpful for myself are the ones about getting more education, if nothing else but to look forward to achieving it.
Ice Wolf, thanks for sharing how your life has changed. I hope I have your attitude to look forward to.
Thanks again, people.
Was that a play on words?
Well, now I’m depressed again.
Why is that?
Eh. I suddenly realized that I don’t actually have anything to look forward to.
Maybe I should get a copy of that book, or something.
Seeing Wicked with my girlfriend in two weeks.
Going to San Francisco with my girlfriend in March (she’s speaking at a conference, but we’re turning it into a vacation and a nice trip between her birthday and mine).
TV: More Office, 24, the return of The Shield, a third season of Venture Bros. at some undefined point in the future.
Movies: 300, Grindhouse, Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3, Transformers, Live Free Or Die Hard, The Dark Knight, Iron Man.
Finishing my fourth semester of graduate school at the end of April.
Graduating with my MLS degree a year from then!
I’m looking forward to the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Mission in October 2008.
It’s going to have a camera powerful enough to take photos of the Apollo landing sites!
I’m a big space buff, and have been waiting many years to see the old LEM lower stages and rovers that are still up there.
Or you could go through the thread and see if anything can be adapted to your circumstances. That was part of the purpose of the thread. And hopefully, those with something to look forward to can also share their excitement in anticipation. ETA: And btw, some of these things that people are looking forward to are very interesting. . . I would never have thought them up myself, but they’re giving me more ideas, so I appreciate them sharing them.
But yes, the book is also very good. Each chapter talks about a different way to gain back some emotional energy, so if you’re lacking in emotional energy, it might be worth a look.
I’m looking forward to my daughter’s graduation from college in '08. She’ll be coming to live with us for a while in order to save for her own house. I’ve really missed her, so it’ll be great having her here again.
Hmm…
Won’t be graduating…
Don’t watch TV…
Won’t be getting a better job…
Won’t be going back to school…
Won’t be going out with wife or girlfriend…
Not expecting a baby…
No visits from friends …
No visits from family…
No vacation…
No pet projects…
Not paying off debt…
Not getting healthier…
So far the only thing leaping out at me are bobtheoptimist’s suggestions: “sleep and dying.”
Ah well, apologies for the hijack. It’s that kind of evening here; sorry for spraying it around.
I am dreading my operation in March. But I’m looking forward to how I’ll be once the long recovering is over.
Sometimes I think half the fun of vacation is the anticipation. I’m looking forward to a diving trip in April to Bonaire. Part of the trip is in business class (we got a good deal), so I’m even looking forward to the flights.
Also looking forward to a day off tomorrow when I will go out for another xc ski.

The end of April. That marks the end of my grueling field work in the Everglades. I’ll be able to channel all my energy on writing while getting extra sleep in the morning.

The day I get a phone call telling me I’ve been hired for a new job. I’m trying to find a new gig that starts in September, and my stomach’s already churning with the anxiety of it all.
Well there’s the $500 you get when I have my Big Lottery Win!
