The City of NY gave a tour to some bigwig military guys in a Continental jumbo jet. The gave them a real nice close-up look at Ground Zero. The people down there crapped their pants.
Who in the hell authorized that? Stupid jerk.
This shocked to the system was followed by another. The courts have decided against the MTA and demanded a rollback of the .50 fare hike. What? Really?
This is all because of the GREAT LIE to DESTROY ALL MEXICANS!! PRESIDENT CLINTON Started the GREAT LIE when he teamed up with the PLEADIANS and the GREYS to STEAL PEOPLE from MEXICO!
It is unbelieveable that the FAA would allow something like this anywhere let alone in NYC, especially downtown Manhattan, after 9/11.
I am just glad that I was in the subway when this happened. I can’t imagine what would have went through my mind having to see a plane that close to the buildings again.
The article first mentions a Jumbo, then a Boeing 777. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t “Jumbo” the nickname for a 747 only?
And not to excuse this moronic stunt: the article states that the plane was never lower than 3,000 feet. If that is true, then it was nowhere near the tallest buildings in NYC, of course. But the reactions on the ground are understandable.
Don’t what constitutes the designation of “Jumbo”.
Re the 3,000 ft.: That is where there is a discrepancy. FAA says 3000 but city officials say 2,000 ft. Even if it was 3,000 ft., you can see how some people on the ground reacted or over reacted (saying plane crashed w/o seeing it) to the event.
Real stupid idea on the part of FAA and the miliitary.
A close friend of mine saw this on his way to work yesterday-- said people were just standing frozen on the sidewalks, staring at the plane, some of them holding hands and everyone looking terrified.
What strikes me as odd is that I didn’t see anything about it on the news (web or tv) until much later in the day. Even NY1 seems not to be bothering with it, at least not on their web site last time I checked.
Yeah I thought the same thing. I didn’t hear about it until I got home from work and I work downtown. I checked NY1s web site first and they had nothing on the front page so I went with the NYDN article.
Possibly, TVAA, but shell-shock doesn’t often make people super rational, and the powers that be really should have known better. If they wanted to give a tour, perhaps it would have been a good idea to find a less scary way of doing it.
If they had to do it by plane, maybe they could provide some warning; let people know what was going on?
Obviously you were not in NYC on 9/11 or can imagine the impact it had on society (all over the country). The plane (if at 3,000 ft.) was within 1500 ft of the Emire State Building (1,483 ft).
If you haven’t been paying attention to the news recently let me fill you in on a few things:
There is/was a was in Iraq.
Al Qaida is suspected to be responsible for a recent bombing in Saudi Arabia. (Psssssst, Al Qaida is responsible for 9/11).
Manhattan has been a virtual no fly zone since 9/11. Seeing a 777 over the sky line now a days is a big deal for us.
I live not very far from the two airports in Queens. I see planes in the sky every day. This neither surprises me nor scares me. What this jet did was fly very low over lower Manhattan, do a few loops around the Statue of Liberty and then zipped down Bowling Green for a close up of Ground Zero. It was definitely not the mere sight of commercial traffic. Commercial traffic does not fly down Broadway at 3000 feet.
