What are you receiving?

I also received some Choxie, Johnny Cash’s American Recordings and Serenity on DVD.

I got something called Wholphin: DVD Magazine of Unseen Things, by McSweeney’s. I love the McSweeney’s story collections, so I figure this ought to be good. Other than that I have no clue what this is. Anyone familiar with it?

LOL…as an adult, I haven’t received anything in years.

I don’t mind, of course. I’ve always felt Xmas was for kids.

I got Volumes 2 & 3 of SCTV on DVD, and a pair of LP frames to hang on the wall for displaying album covers. Still to come in the mail is the 6CD box set from England, “Little Richard: The Specialty Sessions.”

I made out like a bandit. And I still haven’t got the stuff from my Mom yet (Hi Mom!), so I get to do it all over again tomorrow. My Grandparents sent us cash. The Highwayman got me the Black Adder Complete Collecter’s Set DVD; we polished off season one this morning, then had a nap and started dinner. He got a new video card and Battlefield 2. My sister in law bless her soul got me a metric shitload of dark chocolate, pistachios and Starbucks House Blend. MiL and FiL got me a micro-dermabrasion kit. I lost a ton of weight this year and a cup size along with it (le sigh) so I have Christmas brassieres coming as well. Plus I got a lot of big fat ego stroking for my extensive work on Christmas dinner (which might put me back in 36 Ds based on the au jus alone).

And I got a fifth of Grey Goose. I’m halfway through it. Whee!

Yes I know I’m spoiled rotten.

That reminded me of dad. He used to say that. And he lived in Lancaster. :frowning:

(Sorry. I’ve been drinking a bit.)

Hey Johnny! I owe you a bit for my Christmas dinner kudos; I kept seeing you mention Yorkshire pudding, so I tried to make some this year. It was a hit with my (very Irish) mother-in-law. So thanks!
You should come out and visit. You wouldn’t believe Avenue G and Fox Field. Ave. G is 3 lanes now each way from the freeway to 60th. No stop signs the whole way. That baby was made for motorcycling. We haul down it at 130 or so (about all our machine can handle with the both of us on it).

Fox Field? Dad was a Flight Service Specialist at the FSS there before the FAA went to ‘superstations’. This is me at Fox. A waitress at Foxy’s Landing snapped the photo.

Craziness! There’s a big business park there now. Sygma opened a warehouse there and we’ve got more stuff moving in. I applied for a job at Sygma (fingers crossed that I get a job for Christmas/New Year’s).

'Copters look like fun. One day I’ll get The Highwayman over his fear of flying and drag him on one.

They’re the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

So what I do is rent a helicopter, take off all of my clothes, and it’s the most fun I have.

If The Highwayman doesn’t want to fly, do it yourself! (If you want to do fixed-wing, stop by Barnes Aviation. Tell Shou-ling ‘Woody’s’ son says hi.)

He wants to fly, he’s just got a wicked case of vertigo. The man loves his flight-sims, but everytime I mention my fantasy-Grand Tour-of-Europe, he mentions getting on a damn boat. A freakin’ boat. I had enough Aquamania when I was a kid and my yuppie dad had a sailboat in Ventura, thanks.

Sorry to everyone else for the High Desert Hijack ;).

An iPod mini (really got this for myself by allowing my mom to tie up my money in some promotional account for four months), a new laptop from my parents, Body Shop vanilla spice gift package from my sister’s in-laws (they rock), Amazon gift cert from my sis and bro-in-law, goodies from my best friend from undergrad and a gift from mlerose which I managed to miss right before I went back home to Boston.

Possibly the best stash ever…I was only expecting my mom to get me my Mini for the account I opened. The new laptop was a complete surprise.

I’m impossible to shop for. Most people fell back on cliches: Socks, a tea pot and cup, fancy tea bags, cookies and candies.

A huge vanilla lavendar bath set (I know you like purple).

A long black/purple hooded sweater from a co-worker after I complimented hers and remarked “I got to get me one of those” and a maching lavender scarf from another co-worker.

A gift certificate to the local CD shop that specializes in rap and hip hip  . I went through their Xmas tunes and their “Soundtracks” (no separate cast CD section) and found the Spanish Mamma Mia!, which I didn’t have!

The 2DVD set of the Phantom of the Opera movie “Cause I know you like opera.” Faulty reasoning leads to an excellent present.

Good job! Me, too!

I got six assorted novels [some YA books I’ve been wanting to revist and a couple of Southern witticism type deals], three coffeetable books, two hard-to-find Elizabeth Taylor films [in original release VHS no less], FFX for PS2, a CD I’ve been trying to find for ages, one of those nifty new toasters with egg poacher built in, a budget version Hobbit/LOTR boxset with a Middle Earth atlas, and the Willow DVD.

Yeah, the wife spoils me.

I did quite well this year, and a few of my gifts were the direct result of recommendations here on the SDMB: I read about them here, put them on my Amazon wish list, and got them for Christmas … magic!

From my 2 best friends, my mother, my father, and my brother, I got: [ul][li]4 bottles of the perfume I wear[/li][li]2 Farberware pie cutters (Mom noticed that I didn’t have any on Thanksgiving)[/li][li]a very nice Hallmark ornament (a piano that plays “Fur Elise”)[/li][li]cash[/li][li]the Serenity DVD[/li][li]Straight Man and Empire Falls by Richard Russo[/li][li]The Waste Lands (book 3 in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series)[/li][li]Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Collection (w0ot!)[/li][li]Forever Odd by Dean Koontz[/li][li]a Royal Guardsmen CD[/li][li]The Best Christmas Album in the World… Ever![/li][li]a t-shirt that says “books is good”[/li][li]Dark Watch by Clive Cussler[/li][li]a Swarovski snowman[/ul][/li]Now my only problem is that it’s almost 1pm and I still haven’t decided whether I want to spend the day reading, or watching Buffy:wink:

We were overwhelmed this Christmas. I really wasn’t expecting anything at all, maybe a couple little things here and there but from my DIL and SIL and my other step kids we got:

Season 1 and 2 of Battlestar Galactica!!! (I didn’t even know Season 2 was out yet!)

A new DVD player

Tickets to this weekend’s KC Chiefs game at Arrowhead

I was literally in tears as we haven’t had much money to buy them gifts but did manage to buy a few things. They cried too when they saw how shocked we were and how much we loved these great gifts. They had been planning to go to the Chiefs game themselves and kept asking if we wanted to go, but we had said we couldn’t really afford it, to go and have fun, etc. So now it will be wonderful to start the year being together with them at the game.

Then we ended the day by having a nice turkey dinner.
