I’m asking specifically about defunct shows that you have rediscovered and are now enjoying again. But don’t limit your answers to that–take the question in any way you want.
I’ve just started re-watching Sports Night. God, I’d forgotten what a great show that was. And I’m only on the second episode of the first season. As with all Aaron Sorkin shows, closed captioning is a must–no way to keep up with the rapid-fire dialogue otherwise.
An article in *Esquire *implies that Dan is cool and Casey is not. Casey defends his coolness.
Casey: I’m cool! I *love *music!
Dan: (with irony) Yeah, in your car you have the Starland Vocal Band doing “Afternoon Delight.”
Casey: Wait. Yeah, I have the Starland Vocal Band playing “Afternoon Delight,” but it’s not like I went out and bought the single. It’s in my Time-Life “Sounds of the 70s” collection.
I’ve also been watching *Cybill *where Christine Baranski first made her mark persecuting Dr. Dick. And Grace Under Fire, which was really good in the early episodes.
And Lou Grant. Holy crap! How DID they put out several editions of a newspaper in the same day without computers? Loved Mason Adams as the Managing Editor (when he wasn’t being the voice of Smuckers), and Nancy Marchand as Mrs. Pynchon, the highly principled publisher. When a guy held the city room crew hostage at gunpoint, afterward Lou would have put the story on the front page, but Mrs. Pynchon refused to give the man the notoriety he craved. *You go, girl! *
