Polls in general.
ESPN.com has a nice daily format, but naturally it is strictly sports.
Okay. Even Yahoo!'s daily lightweight poll prompts me to vote as many days as I don’t. In some of them I’ve been surprised at the responses, but usually my vote is among the 'winners."
Believe it or not, I have even toyed with the idea of “Your Favorite SDMB Polls” but wonder which forum it ought to be started in. IMHO? As I have been persuaded in recent times, it’s better to start a “pre-poll data collection thread” before attempting to be comprehensive in the poll options.
How do you feel about such an approach?

I voted ‘Other’ in addition to music, books, etc. because of the contests. That may sound incredibly self-serving, as I’m the guy that runs the Short Fiction contests and Poetry Sweatshops. I hope it doesn’t come off that way, though.
I meant it as a tribute to the brave people who submit to these contests, as well as the general support shown by the SDMB for people’s creative endeavours. It’s a little scary to show your work, which was created under less than ideal circumstances, for everyone’s scrutiny. The fact that the commentary has been respectful and constructive, and the pieces submitted keep getting better each time, is a real testimony to the positive environment on this message board. We couldn’t do contests like that at 4Chan…
I am assuming that the OP is a woman because she left out a VERY popular and important topic that can only have been left out due to her feminine bias:
porn/boobies/nudity
Also, and I think it’s understandable that this topic may not have been included, but I find that the most useful and interesting threads are threads that point me to new and interesting things in the media. New movies, books, TV shows, musicians and such. Frex, there was a thread on realistic vs. op art that was really thought-provoking and interesting, and led me to some works by interesting artists. There was another on artsy/unusual architecture that was great fun. And one I DID start was on covers of songs that completely reinvented the original. It’s hard to CATEGORIZE such threads, but damn, if you could, it would be the BEST CATEGORY EVAH!
Agreed! (says one of the stalwarts who hangs out in **E-Sabbath’s **Great Ongoing Guitar Thread…)
Well, Evin, What have been your favorite SDMB Polls? (started Yesterday, 09:33 AM) has yet to get any traction, so you and I may be the ones to care about such things.

My first thought, seeing the polling options, was “how did Zeldar not include The Wire as a separate category!?”
Well, I was damn well tempted!
