Well, this is the Pitt. Pretty much anything other than wishing/threatening death on a another Doper goes.
To be honest, it’s just a quirk of mine. My husband likes to order “variations” of what’s on restaurant menus. I generally remove myself to the Ladies to avoid it altogether. Does that make me a bad person?
I can’t say it makes you a bad person! I think you just took it a bit far in Ferret Herder’s example.
Then again, I used to go to the Ladies while my mother enjoyed her appetizer of raw oysters. Some things are better avoided.
I haven’t read all three pages of this thread yet so it may have been covered by others but I want to say that your husband is lucky that I never mistakingly served him a pickle when I waited tables or he’d be picking his teeth up off the fucking floor if he reacted that way.
Great Debates - …This is also the place for religious debates…
I guess if we’re going to discuss the religious values inherent in mocking Carol Stream, then we’re in the wrong place.
But is it OK for us atheists to continue the mocking? Because this thread has given me the most entertainment I’ve had in days.
No, this is the Pit. If it were the Pitt, Carol Stream would be bitching about the person who didn’t want the fries on her sandwich at Primanti’s.
Dudes? This was a rather interesting thread. Can we get back on topic, please?
Just a request.
No substitutions. Sorry.
Would you like fries with that?
I’m having a mind picture of you rubbing the pickle in the crack of your ass and tossing it back on his food now. From a wife perspective, if my husband ever threw a pickle at a server because he asked for one not to be on his plate, he wouldn’t be my husband because I would have dumped his ass for not being able to stand having a pickle even on his plate. I preferred to date adults.
Yeah, I guess I have a tendency to do that–take things to far. Thanks for being nice, though, I do appreciate it.
These are my two biggest pet peeves. And they’re related. Why on earth do we have to have overpriced portions that are big enough to feed a family? I occasionally like to go to Village Inn for breakfast. They have these things called "skillet meals’ that are seriously big enough to feed at least three people.
I only just found out that you can order a “small” (still way too big) even though it’s not on the menu, and pay slightly less. Unfortunately the jerks are soon going to be doing away with that.
As to the children’s menu, some restaurants will allow you to order off of it and I usually take advantage. You can also request what they call “senior’s meal size” (gee thanks I feel old enough  ).
My recent restaurant gripe is also tea-related. Now, my raised-in-Alabama BF has recently introduced me to the wonder of Southern-style sweet tea. Just tea, and a whooole lotta sugar. No lemon. He does not like any carbonated beverage of any sort, and doesn’t drink coffee often because it tends to upset his stomach. So, if he is to have any beverage other than water with a meal, we can only go to certain restaurants that actually serve sweet tea (this includes fast-food places as well).
I’m sick of asking “Do you have brewed sweet tea?” only to get either tea from the fountain beverage machine that tastes like ass, or iced tea with lemon. It has happened so often, I usually ask again, just to be sure, “Fresh-brewed, with no lemon, right?”
I’m also sick of going to certain fast food chains that have recently begun advertising their brewed sweet tea, only to find that they stop serving it after a certain time. Wendy’s is particularly bad about this, which sucks, because Wendy’s is one of the few fast food places where I can get fairly healthy food and he can get his tea.
So, if you’re working in the food service industry, please understand that there’s a difference between iced tea and sweet tea (I wouldn’t expect New Englanders to know this, but we are technically in the south, even if you don’t consider Florida part of it). Also, don’t advertise that you have sweet tea, then only brew it between the hours of 10 and 2 or some bullshit.
Half the poeple here are lunatics, the other half usually agree with you and me, although they don’t seem to post much.
You simply order them with no salt. Then they will have to be fresh. If you want salt, salt them yourself.
As other folks have said on this thread to complaints like this, what’s wrong with taking leftovers home? Is it gauche? I never thought so. Is it just not as good the next day? Perhaps, but not a lot of foods are.
I take home food when I can, but sometimes it’s not worth it - like with salads, or sushi.
American portions are ridiculous. I really wish they’d let me order off the kids’ menu.
You can do that? They will do that? This is crazy enough to work!
Same with me. If I ate nuts, I’d be dead whether or not I knew they were in there.
I assume you are talking about sweet tea, noting your location? Because regular iced tea is no big deal to make. Usually, they run the tea bags through the coffee machine replenishing the tea in the urn/dispenser as needed. Now, sweet tea is a different deal and requires some time and prep. You must also understand restaurants are under the law of finite quantities. A Restaurant isn’t some magical food dispensary with unlimited quantities of Unicorn juice and Faerie Filets, with a Bottomless tankard of eternal spring in the back, and the servers aren’t magical wizards that can make time stand still. To make extra tea in these quantities might be out of the realm of reality.
However, I would probaly run to a McDonald’s on the night you guys come in and rent one of their Orange Drink Thermos/Dispensers. But then you also have to consider if free tea (and pounds of sugar) is worth the margin call.
