Love songs that make you smile and maybe even tear up because they seem to capture that feeling of love so well. No emo or sadness allowed! “Hallelujah” and “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” are both banned.
My personal favorites are:
“When I’m 64”. I know some people think it’s sappy, but it tugs at my heartstrings. The idea of wanting to happily grow old with your beloved is just so perfectly captured in this song.
“You and I”. My friends played this at their wedding and it was lovely. I love the simplicity and the silliness of it.
PS - I promise I will listen to every song posted.
It’s actually not a happy love song, since he never gets the girl: he wrote her number on his hand “but it came off in the rain”. But it’s pretty much the happiest song I’ve ever heard.
And for a pop song it’s surprisingly musically sophisticated - the more you listen to it, the more layers are revealed.
There’s a ton of songs from the 1920s-30s that are all about how adorable and sweet the man one loves is – they’re so cute, and you don’t really get songs praising men for being sweet nowadays. Lovable and Sweet is the best example.
And I love singing this song – Cooking Breakfast for the One I Love
Is “Time in a Bottle” happy? I love that song, but the mere fact of my love for it makes me think it must be, at best, bittersweet if not downright melancholy.
You make me dance like fool,
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold,
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile
TJ McCloud is also great, almost all of his songs are sweetly sentimental.
Another Day in Love is especially nice:
He smiles and he makes a joke about her freckles
And for miles they drive singing love song all the way
Her feet up on the dashboard
Leaving footprints on the glass
It’s just a, another day in love
I am kind of crazy about making happy CD mixes for the car, let me know if you want me to PM you any playlists, don’t want to hijack the thread unnecessarily!
