An oldie, but goodie: Happy Together, by The Turtles.
“I’ll Stand By You”-Pretenders
“When You Love A Woman”-Journey
“I Love You”, Climax Blues Band
“When You’re Old and Lonely”, J.D. Souther
“Fallin’ in Love”, Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds
“Sweetheart”, Franke & The Knockouts
“Gamble Everything for Love” by Ben Lee. Not mainstream, but a great song.
Second Happy Together. Will add Natalie Cole’s This Will Be.
This will be, you and me, yes-sir-ee, eternally
Hugging and squeezing and kissing and pleasing
Together forever, through rain or whatever*
And a special shout out to Earth Wind and Fire’s September.
The Sweetest Thing I’ve Ever Known is Loving You by Juice Newton
Do Ya and Hold Me by KT Oslin
And I was was going to mention The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA but Zsofia beat me to it, so nyeah!
That was pretty awesome, and I need to get my folks to give it a listen. :p:p
Here’s my contribution; makes me pumped every time I hear it, which is quite often; one of my favorite songs ever, and definitely top 5 or ten for love songs.
Not that there is anything wrong with him singing live…
And currently there’s a version with him and Brian Wilson, with Wilson filling in a lot that apparantly someone thought was missing. I so absolutely adore the song just as it is that I had to share that one first. I hope you like it as much as I do.
That’s an easy one. The Cure- Friday I’m In Love.
Dressed up to the eyes
It’s a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a sheik
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It’s such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It’s Friday, I’m in love
That part and the little laugh at the end make me giggle every time. (^_^)
Be My Baby, the Ronettes
This isn’t just the happiest love song ever, it’s the happiest anything ever
“I’m Into Something Good”, Herman’s Hermits
Pure joy: Stevie Wonder - For Once in My Life
It’s silly but I like λ♥[love].
“Let’s Stay Together” -Al Green
HazelNutCoffee, Wikipedia lists over 30 “You and I”'s. Which is your favorite?
Oooh, another great call! I haven’t heard that one in a long time; time to remedy that.
Ingrid Michaelson. Although I also like Wilco’s.
I’ll be away for the long weekend (it’s Memorial Day here) but I’ll have a lovely playlist for next week thanks to this thread.
installLSC, I actually owned that Herman’s Hermits record. I loved it and I’m not ashamed.
Love songs are rare for her, but these two bring a smile to my face every time. Love the circus/waltzy type music. (Don’t let the monsters scare you away, they have stories behind them that make them very cool once you know. To the uninitiated they’re weird and creepy, but they’re not.)
She has a few other “love songs” but they’re quite a bit weirder. Those are the most straightforward ones.
I Only Want To Be With You by Dusty Springfield
Oh, I forgot, I also love “Lay You Down” by, er, Conway Twitty - the whole song is really sweet:
“There’s so many ways your sweet love’s made this house into a home
You’ve got a way of doing little things that turn me on
Like standing in the kitchen in your faded cotton gown
With your hair done up in curlers, I still love to lay you down”
It’s really funny, because it’s all about “Hell, I’m just going to come out and say it, I love banging you!” but it’s about a real love through the decades and people who still desire each other.
Hope For Us All by Nick Lowe
