I concur on two out of three, I hate Jolene.
OK, everyone can forever block me now. I don’t like a single hunk of music that Dolly Parton has ever created, especially “Jolene”. I really don’t get the love for that song.
Note that I know that she is a wonderful human being and is universally loved as a person. I just can’t do her music.
mmm
You’re all right, man.
I voted for Jolene not because I’m a Dolly fan, but because no-one nominated this version and it was the closest thing to it.
I understand your point. While i do enjoy several of her songs, Jolene is so damn bad.
Have you tried the slowed down version? Ii’s been posted here a couple of times. It’s quite the revelation.
j
If you’d heard it 3,000 times in your youth, you wouldnt be surprised how poorly it’s doing.
About The Joker — I’m not going to listen to it right now, but I think it’s one of the few medium tempo songs in the final. Maybe fast tempos and slow tempos are easier to love?
The lyrics are self-centered, all about Steve, his songs, and his multiple identities. And how do we reconcile his declaration that he is not doing her wrong and that she shouldn’t worry, with his other declaration that he “gets his loving on the run”?
Despite those handicaps it’s still a pleasant fun song that I’d probably listen to if it popped up on a store’s speaker,
Are there glitches with these polls? I’m 99% certain I voted in the final.
Yes
Well, there was another, pre-Joker Steve Miller J song in the poll that you could’ve voted for: “Journey From Eden”, from the largely overlooked Recall The Beginning…A Journey From Eden, the transitional album released before he became a mainstream hitmaker.
If you’re a fan the recent Joker 50th Anniversary edition is worth a listen.
