I believe that your beliefs enable corporate sociopathy in society, and given the enormous power of corporations, is a huge problem in the US and other countries right now.
Not THAT one!
Most women in relationships, even women who consider themselves highly ethical, will not hesitate for a moment to seek out and read their SO’s email if they think they can get away with it undiscovered. The little fig leaf lies they tell after of how they happened upon it “accidentally” are always amusing.
Many people, even large and heavy individuals who think they are tough are actually in terrible physical shape and could be easily handled and humiliated by people with real world fight training.
“Fat acceptance” as a social trend is asinine. Most fat people loathe being overweight.
People who think losing weight is all about willpower have no clue about the constant bio-chemical push to eat most overweight people have to contend with.
I’m all for the ability of gay people to marry, but I’m thinking that they haven’t quite fully grasped the flip side of the state weighing in when want to divorce.
Women, even progressive and wealthy women, are generally outraged if they are required to pay child support in a divorce scenario.
I’m not going to talk about my truly unpopular opinions, so here is some pablum stuff.
I think cooked food bought from a gas station tastes good. Gas station pizza, hot dogs, etc taste pretty good and I enjoy eating them.
I’m agnostic and I generally believe in an afterlife, I don’t think an afterlife necessarily has any religious causes or connotations. I think you see what you expect to see, and most people expect to see a religious afterlife so that is what they see.
I think most people are full of shit about bullying and claiming we grow out of it after we stop being kids. As adults we love bullying, albeit we do it via our entertainment venues more than anything. Ridiculing celebrities until they get an eating disorder doesn’t raise any eyebrows.
I think a world where China is the new superpower may have some good to it. China seem like it is run by competent, informed technocrats. Maybe a world where they are a superpower is better than one where we are still debating evolution like we do in the US.
I’m of the opinion that they should abolish the off-side rule in soccer. I have expressed this opinion in the past and was surprised about the amount of resentment I encountered.
Anything with zombies and/or vampires is just stupid and a waste of time to write, read, film or watch.
All guns should be banned. Period.
Chicken wings are horrible - it is like gnawing on little rat carcasses.
NASCAR is not a fucking sport - no more than watching my uncle Earl wearing an Elvis suit and driving really fast down the freeway to pick up beer at a 7/11. 99.9% of people who go to NASCAR events are redneck, hick racists.
Rap songs are crap and only exist so that people with absolutely no talent and no singing voice can make money off people with absolutely no taste in music. It is the equivalent of watching people play air guitar and pretending to be real musicians.
Country music uses the same three chords in every damned song, and wearing cowboy hats and cowboy boots on a stage in LA or NYC, or any stage for that matter, is the equivalent of watching a bad drag show.
Nothing inherently wrong with getting tattoos - but no matter which tattoo you get, it is going to look silly and outdated in ten years or less and you will probably regret it. Ask any woman with a tramp stamp, or any guy with barbed wire around his arm…
I love threads like these because the people who would normally deny and skirt around their positively odious opinions seem to be under the mistaken impression that other people don’t read these posts and remember who said them.
Not everyone here - I have made my comments several times over the years - and I don’t exactly get lots of fans, but they have never been a secret! That’s why I listed them in a thread of “unpopular opinions”.
I’m not arguing against this but I would like some clarification. What alternative would you prefer? Are you suggesting there should be some set of human rights which transcend national citizenship? How would these rights be defined or upheld?
Do you have any positively odious opinions?
I personally wish I didn’t. I wish my thinking was completely fact-based. But as much as I try, I can’t seem to make myself strictly logical.
Here’s another one:
Grown adults who blame their personality weaknesses on their parents need to get over themselves.
I think most popular music is totally without any redeeming artistic quality. There are a few exceptions.
I think the answer to the world’s future power needs is nuclear. Not solar. Not wind. Not fossil fuels. Not natural gas.
I think the number of the people in the U.S. who have emotional and strongly expressed fetishes about their diets and dietary choices is quite embarrassing.
I think there is as much anti-science among liberals as conservatives.
It’s a myth that the SDMB is a bunch of the smartest, hippest people on the planet. It’s a board that skews older than most, and there’s a lot of the (small-c) conservatism that comes with that.
I believe that very very few (close enough to zero for statistical purposes) people on welfare want to be there or had any choice in the matter, and that the idea of the “welfare queen” so beloved of so many people everywhere is total fiction, and odious fiction at that, right up there with holocaust denial in terms of defaming victims.
I think Singapore style caning should be an automatic punishment for vandalism and mugging. Without exception. 12 strokes minimum.
Wow… If I’d known you were taking notes I’ve have tried much harder.
The “ladder theory” is more real than not.
Women really do want to be fucked with a big dick every so often, but are afraid to admit this desire.
Immigrants often fake their ESOL limitations to get away with bad behavior.
A lot more pregnancies are “accidentally on purpose” than anyone will ever admit.
A lot of gay friendly heterosexual men still wince internally if they see gay men kissing or doing other normal couples PDA stuff.
I think nuclear power is a good thing, and can solve some of our energy problems. We should be investing in new nuclear power plants.
I think transgenderism/gender dysphoria/whatever-you-call it is real, but that brutal and irreversible surgery is not necessarily the best treatment for it.
I think that many, maybe even most, self-styled “skeptics” are skeptical about everything except their own skepticism.
textbook projection
I love it
I believe that there should be no such thing as public education. I believe that governments have no business educating children, or mandating that they get an education. I believe that if the government got out of the business (and stopped taxing people for education), the free market would come up with affordable schools that even the poor can afford, and charities would come up with free schools for the very poorest kids.
Also I really don’t care for beer.
Microprocessors turn out to have been pretty handy to have around.
