Personally, since I was about 12, I’ve had at least one dream a month where I’m either at camp or at “home” and being swarmed by zombies. It’s funny, I developed this zombie fixation even before I started watching horror movies. Yet still, It’s always pretty much the same dream. Zombies attack, I run, more zombies show up, I run some more, at some point, I jump out of a two story window and land in tree, I run, more zombies, more running, and at some point, I wake up.
So, who out there has any re-occuring dreams they’d like to share? And if anyone out there likes to annalyse dreams, please don’t hesitate to tell us what they mean (especially mine, nobody I know seems to understand what zombies represent other than a fucked up facination with them).
I’m a soldier in WWII, sometimes on the Allied side, sometimes Axis. We are fighting a pitched battle, sometimes in a fortress on a beach, sometimes in a submarine pen, sometimes in an underground bunker. Often I’m a medic and I run around giving the wounded shots with a big yellow hypo.
Of course, this is doubtlessly because I play Return to Castle Wolfenstein online several hours a day. I tend to dream about whatever game I’m playing a lot at the time.
I also have dreams that take place in the same setting, a weird post-apocalyptic seeming version of the town I lived in I’ve come to think of as ‘Sunset Town’, because these dreams always take place at or near dusk. The layout of the town has similarities to Greenville, TX, but there are weird differences like an area that is filled with large parallel ditches, a small old church on a hill (where there is a large one IRL) that is the home of an aged hacker, and a mansion south of town where Satan lives at the end of a tree-lined boulevard. I could probably draw a map of the place for you and show you where several of my dreams took place. Whenever I leave the town in the dreams I get hopelessly lost and I end up much farther away than I should be.
The dreams I have that are set there almost always involve horror elements, which is strange - though my dreams are frequently violent, it’s almost always stuff that can happen IRL, the only time there are monsters is when I’m having a dream based on a videogame. In my most recent dream set there I knew (in that weird way you know stuff for no reason in a dream) that at sunset dinosaurs and zombies were going to come and eat everyone and I was hiding in an abandoned office building, afraid for my family (who I was separated from) and hoping I could find something to render myself unconscious with so I wouldn’t feel it when they came for me. I also had a dream set there where I lit a corpse with a lighter and it burst into flames, charring itself black, after which I ate it…and a dream where Satan was trying to make some deal with me where I would get Australia but I wasn’t sure what I had to pay for it. Oh yeah, and a dream where me and Tupac Shakur started a gang and we were gathering monsters (mostly from Greek mythology) to use as weapons.
What does ‘recurring’ mean? Happened three times? Happens on a regular schedule? Well, anyways…
I’m at school. I know no one there - except for this one girl I knewin real life. I walk over to her, she doesn’t notice me at all. I pass her by, being too shy to actually make my presence known to her by talking to her. She doesn’t notice. I go to the bathroom. When I get out, she’s gone. Happened about three times. Probably a reflection of my inability to ask people out, but the meaning could be somehow more than that - I’m no shrink. I didn’t know the girl too well, but I did like her a bit.
I’m flying around the house awkwardly and slowly, by means of beating my arms wildly. I only manage to get a few inches off the ground and my legs drag on the floor. When I land, I wake up. Regular, about once a month.
Then there’s the every-few-weeks ‘I’m naked in a public place and no one notices but me’ dream. Weird.
