Nope. You basically just bring more armor for survival. Your characters will heal back to 1/2 health in between firefights.
Also don’t underestimate Trevor’s ability. He’s pretty much invulnerable when he gets pissed off. Whenever he is on the team use him for the really dangerous parts.
Thanks. Game said characters will heal to 50% when hiding/resting. I take it that armor in this game is simply extended health-bar? Like the old Doom game, your armor goes first, then your health.
You even get to visit the cul de sac where the GTA San Andreas bloke lives in GTA5, which is cute.
I really enjoyed GTA5; the missions seemed less strait-jacketed than in RDR2 (or at least didn’t annoy me in the same way, despite having no real freedom), which is good because I found the content outside missions a bit lacking. There should have been more opportunity for small ad hoc crimes - like the rather fun grocery store stick-ups. And I loved the gambling in RDR2, while the casino (in single-player) GTA5 remains closed…
I thought the mission involving torture was poorly judged and crass, and I find it unlikely the makers were operating on a level of irony beyond me.
The world-building’s great, and when I went from 3rd person (PS3) to 1st person (PS4) I found it almost unpleasantly immersive, running from cops over walls and down alleys (albeit that much harder to control).
Is money that important? I just did the jewelry heist and got what appears to be a ton of money for it. Looks like enough to buy expensive guns and mods for guns.
I am guessing massively expensive stuff is still out there and i just have no idea about it. I feel rich after Heist #1(Jewelry). I did get all the stuff in the store and I think hired a reasonable crew to help me.
The language is hard core, no doubt. It’s also quite realistic.
The game was an absolute blast, in my opinion. The radio stations are insane, especially the talk channels. Have you tuned in to Chakra Attack yet? Good god.
I remember the first time I played it, and finding myself in debt to Medrazo. I had no idea how I was going to pay him beck that kind of money, when my only known source of income was stealing a cab and being a cabbie. It wasn’t amounting to much. I learned that if you want to make the money, you have to follow the storyline.
I also only played single player. But aside from the radio stations, the side crap like stunt jumps are pretty good, too.
(ETA: Man, when Michael and his whole family attend the therapy session together, Damn, that’s entertaining stuff to me!)
At first, I was so focused on driving, I turned the radio off. Lately, I have listened to whatever is on the radio and have heard the Foxnews parody in terms of talk radio. “Confirming your prejudices!”
Yes and no. Do you want to buy up all the businesses? The businesses will earn you income in various ways but they’ll take a long time to pay themselves off. Mostly they open up a bit of gameplay. If you want to do this, you’re going to want all the money. If no, you’ll make more money than you can possibly eat.
Save your heist money, and play the stock market. Wait. Not just any stock market. Wait for Lester to give you some side missions which involve screwing with certain corporations. He uses the PCs to tamper with the stock value of companies, which gives you ridiculous investment opportunities if you make the most of it.
It’s really the only reasonable way to afford the golf course ($100M if memory serves). Besides, it’s only insider trading if they catch you.
In terms of business ownership, I would advise Franklin to buy the auto repair place available to him. Sure it’s far from home, but unlimited free upgrades to vehicles kicks ass.
I dunno if it’s supposed to be or not, but in my mind I see Michael as the protagonist from vice city. Now retired and middle aged. Not sure who trevor is supposed to be though. Maybe someone from GTAIV? I never played IV.
Another take on the 3 characters could be common GTA play styles:
Franklin: Playing the ‘good guy’ doing ‘a little more than the law will allow.’
Michael: Willing to do whatever it takes to obtain wealth and success.
Trevor: The psycho who guns down and runs down pedestrians for fun.
Another thought:
When it comes to cars for missions it’s usually better to soup-up Frankin’s and Michael’s car vs trying to find something else (unless you need a disposable get-away car).
Franklin’s car with all the upgrades has similar acceleration to the fastest super-cars in the game plus it can be heavily armored. Top speed is lower but it’s still much faster than any cop car or other pursuer. On top of all that, if the car gets destroyed or stolen it eventually appears back at your house with all the upgrades intact.
OK, so I am actually getting into the groove and am liking the game quite a bit. While Red Dead Redemption 2 had a painfully slow opening, this game more or less threw me in some missions right away and while that is fun, it was kind of jarring and I wasn’t used to the mechanics of the game.
I can drive adequately, though if I am every required to truly drive amazingly, I’m screwed. Flying on the PC was terrible.
However, I am progressing and looking around and pretty much just doing stuff along the way. Very fun and now that I realize how big the map is(wayyyyy up north), I realize how impressive it is.
It was on today and I drove around. I don’t find most of the humor in GTAV very funny, but wow, Chakra Attack is hilarious. I am looking up the entire stream of it on youtube to listen to since I am not always in a car in the game.
Was it written or did the voice-actors just make that crazy stuff up? I’m laughing just thinking about it. Definitely the funniest thing in the game so far.
“We had a great time in the studio. They had something written, of course, but they allowed me to get in there and they allowed me to have fun. I mean, it’s one thing to have a concept, but it’s another to know the voice behind it, to have the rhythm behind it—all these little nuances that we don’t think about that come into play once you get into that studio.”
From the PS3-PS5(and with the addition of PC), did the game improve graphically? My game is more or less set to “ultra” level settings, with maybe a couple things turned down.
It really looks like a solid PS3 game. Grass textures on the medians are just one step above PS2, though most things look great. Excellent reflections in the cars while I drive around.
The one thing I presume is much better is that I have almost no load times. It loads once when I launch the game and then every death takes less than 5 seconds(maybe less than 3 seconds) to re-load and there are literally no load times to begin cut-scenes before missions. After cut-scenes, missions launch immediately.
