I’ve got this awful variation of an earworm going on inside my head right now, where I can vaguely make out the music and the accompanying words of a song, but not clearly enough to make sense of them and so it’s been driving me crazy. Anyway, what I most clearly remember about the song is actually its music video, which was shot in one take, with one camera pointing in one direction, and the scenery (which resembles something you’d see in a grade-school theater production) moves into and out of frame on tracks installed in the floor. The song has a notable horn presence, and I want to say it’s a trumpet, but I’m unsure. The lead singer is the driving force behind the band, and the other members are members of his family, his sisters, I think. There was a documentary made about him (and his family) not too long ago.
Are you thinking of the video for “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” by the Crash Test Dummies? It’s got a grade-school play in it, the band has brothers in it, and the song is one hell of an earworm.
I appreciate the suggestions so far. It’s definitely none of these, though. The video was made on a shoe-string budget by a band most people would probably describe as Indie. I don’t think they’re very well-known. Thinking more about the video, I think I recall the changing scenery including outfits, or costumes, I guess, made of cardboard or plyboard into which the lead singer would insert his head while he sang. Sort of like those things you’d see on a boardwalk. Like this.
Yes! Thank you. I think what put the song inside my head was a recent thread here about Sufjan Stevens, who I remembered being in the documentary. So glad to finally have words and a name to put to the song.
