What bands have you seen more than once?

Hi yourself. Alas, I don’t think I’ll see them for the rest of this year, what with their Europe plans.

Allman Brothers Band - 45 times
Derek Trucks Band - 12
Gov’t Mule - 9
Phil Lesh & Friends - 8
Dickey Betts (various solo bands) - 5
Susan Tedeschi - 4
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - 2
Metallica - 2
Tori Amos - 2
Scrapomatic - 2
Ben Folds - 2

I’ve also seen Lucinda Williams twice, both as an opening act.

Rush >20 times (I think)
Grateful Dead 2
Cowboy Mouth >10
Mighty Mighty Bosstones 3
Gin Blossoms 3
Cherry Poppin’ Daddies 2
Emmet Swimming 5
Jimmy’s Chicken Shack 2
Mary Prankster 6
Velocity Girl 2
Counting Crows 2
Ozomotli 2
Harvey Danger 2
Jewel 2
U2 2
Primus 2
MSG 2
Mr Big (God help me) 2
Toad the Wet Sprocket 3

Barenaked Ladies 25+ times and counting
Guster 6x
They Might Be Giants 5x
Morrissey 2x
Pearl Jam 2x
Tom Petty 2x
Weird Al 2x
Wilco 2x
Butterfly Boucher 3x
Old 97s 4x
Rhett Miller 2x
Weezer 2x
Cake 2x

Having been big into hair bands at one time (and still enjoy the music once in a while):

Kiss (x4)
Loverboy (x4)
REO Speedwagon (4+)
Motley Crue (x3)
Warrant (x3)
Dokken (x3)
Anthrax
Megadeth
Metallica
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Boston
Nugent
Night Ranger
Dio
Poison

I’m sure I’m forgetting some. Of those Kiss seemed to be the band that could be either really on or really off. When they were into the show, they were really quite good.

The Smashing Pumpkins - 16 (approx)
Zwan - 3

I can’t think of any non-local bands I’ve seen twice other than Billy Corgan’s. Still, saw lots of memorable shows. Good times…good times.

Not many.

Rush x 2
Miles Davis x 2 (In his days with Bill Evans and Mike Stern)
Richard Thompson x 3

REM twice, including one time for $2 at a small club in Athens in the 1980s (and another time at the Omni in Atlanta, an arena venue, for the Green tour).

They Might Be Giants, more times than I can count.

And I’m amazed that I’m the first to mention either band.

I’ve seen They Might Be Giants 36 times. No joke. And I know people who’ve seen them over 100. It’s easy when the band lives in the same city as me and likes doing local gigs all the time. I’ve seen Weird Al Yankovic 15 times, including 10 on the Touring With Scissors tour, mostly due to a road trip taken during the last week of it, yet haven’t seen him on the Lynwood tour yet, mainly due to his apparent fear of playing in NYC (didn’t play here last tour either!). I’ve seen Lisa Loeb about 5 times, also due to her doing low-key NYC shows. I’ve seen Pearl Jam 3 times, as well as The Candy Butchers. Come to think of it, I’ve also seen OK Go about 4 times, and they were all as opening acts. I’ve seen Metallica twice as well, although the first show was an S&M and they were not allowed to play very loud due to overpowering the orchestra and thus the recording they were doing.

I don’t do concerts for a variety of reasons, but I’ve seen Wilco 3 times, 4 if you count the Jeff Tweedy show (and I do) and Eric Clapton twice. I’ll be catching Wilco again at the end of August.

I wouldn’t presume to guess at your reasons, but I generally don’t like them either. I don’t like the crowds and the overpriced drinks, the sound is usually cranked up much higher than I prefer it, and frankly, the music usually sounds better on the studio-produced CD.

It has to be a band I really, really like and one I know is especially good live before I’ll go out to see them.

Sorry to be Captain Bringdown for this thread.

I’ve been going to Cheap Trick shows since 1979. My son’s seen them 5 times.

the dB’s (3)
R.E.M. (2, first time in spring 1983)
Flipper (2, first time with original lineup)
the Nighthawks (at least 3)
Chris Isaak (3)
Nick Lowe (2)

The list of bands I’ve seen is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very long one. The list of bands I’ve seen more than once is considerably shorter:

The Rolling Stones
R.E.M.
Drive By Truckers
Jason and the Scorchers
Psychedelic Furs
Poi Dog Pondering
BR5-49
Asylum Street Spankers
The Bodeans
Cowboy Mouth

Plus several more obscure local Athens and Atlanta bands.

And several bluegrass bands (all of which I recommend if they come your way):

Chatham County Line
Steep Canyon Rangers
King Wilkie

I didn’t know they ever came to Atlanta.

What I can remember offhand:

Jethro Tull - about 25
Yes - I think 11 times, plus ABWH twice
King Crimson - about 9, plus ProjeKct 2 and ProjeKct 4 once each
Frank Zappa - 5
Fairport Convention - lots
Richard Thompson - several
Martin Carthy - at least four
Pentangle - 3, plus Renbourn/McShee and Renbourn/Jansch shows
Gentle Giant - 3
ELP - 5 (including ELPowell once)
Genesis - 3 (none of them with Gabriel, unfortunately)
Steeleye Span - 2
Robin Williamson - several
Robert Fripp - at least 5 (solo, League of Crafty Guitarists, RF string Quintet)
Procol Harum - 3
Groovy Judy (local band) - dozens of times
Tempest (local band) - lots, will probably go see them in the park on Thursday
Elvis Costello - 2
The Who - 2 (once with Moony, once without)
Rolling Stones - 3
Strawbs - 2.5 (Walked out on them once; they sucked that night. The other two shows were great.)
Porcupine Tree - 3
Peter Gabriel - at least twice
Kevin Ayers - 2

Yep. The old Cotton Club, on at least two occasions.

Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Elton John, Jimmy Buffett, Jerry Jeff Walker, Stevie Nicks, Bruce Springsteen…

There’s probably others that I can’t think of right now.

A few I forgot (this is important, dammit):

Green Day
Live
Radiohead
Ziggy Marley

Cyndi Lauper twice.

If you count the band I roadied for in college, then Phineas Gage more times than any human not actually fucking a band member should have had to.

Ashley MacIsaac (3x)
Thanks to Gravity (3x)
Weird Al Yankovic (2x)
Burn What’s Left (2x)
