What can you tell me abut the American Humane Society?

Not the National Humane Society, or the International Humane Society or any of the other animal rights organizations. I am looking for information about a group specifically called the American Humane Society. For the longest time most movies that involved animals would mention in the end credits that said animals were watched over and protected by this specific group, but I am having a tough time finding out anything about them. I thought at first it was the same group as American Humane, but they have been using that as their official name since 1884.

American Humane is the “No animals were harmed” group.

"No Animals Were Harmed" - American Humane - American Humane.

The second link says that they monitor about 70% of productions that include “animal action.”

Doing an image search for “No Animals Were Harmed” shows some versions using “American Humane Association.” Same group though.

This article has the same information.

American Humane, also known at some point in the past as the American Humane Association, is the group responsible for the “no animals were harmed” message.

That’s all fine and dandy, but the logo at the end of “Amityville: It’s About Time” said American Humane Society, which seems to be a name American Humane never used. The American Humane Society also seems to have been involved with problems on set of The Adventures Of Milo And Otis The Adventures of Milo and Otis - Wikipedia

This ten-year-old article from The Hollywood Reporter said that the group behind the “no animals were harmed” trademark was the American Humane Association and that the group covered up or overlooked animal deaths on sets.

So I’m thinking, “I know I just saw it a few hours ago, but I do make the very occasional mistake”(), so just now I pulled it up on Tubi(It is available on several free providers), fast forwarded to the end credits and there it was: An abstract shield type-logo and the words “American Humane Society”.

Sounds like more than one outfit is involved in movie production animal safety, or the whitewashing of same.

This.

Similarly, a local pet store sells puppies that are “registered”. People assume this to mean they are registered through the AKC (American Kennel Club) when indeed they are actually registered through the CKC (Continental Kennel Club) or some other meaningless organization.

I worked for six years for our local humane society, and spent a fair amount of time using resources from HSUS and AHA (now just AH). “American Humane Society” is not a name I’ve ever heard until this thread. On the Amityville: it’s about Time IMDB Page, it lists AHA as monitoring the animals.

The movie is apparently direct-to-video. My suspicion is that whoever was in charge of credits was incompetent.

For what it’s worth, I was recently looking up animal welfare standards for meat producers, and American Humane Certified seemed to be about the weakest one out there. Very minimal standards.

Whether that has anything to do with “American Humane Society” and if so what I don’t know.

That would not explain the creation of the shield-like logo.

If it’s clip-art, it might.

The alternative is that the studio used an organization other than the one that supervises animals in nearly every Hollywood production. and AH didn’t file any legal action on the subject.

But wait! Looking at AH’s website, while other Amityville films are listed, none from 1992 are listed. Maybe this is a fraud?

Is that the same logo as on the first page of this PDF? If so, that’s for American Humane, formerly American Humane Association.

That is definitely not the logo.

Okay, can you link to the logo you’re thinking of?

Not really. I tried to find it among the logos of other Humane groups but had no luck. But, like I said before, if you pull up the movie via Tubi, Crackle, The Roku Channel or elsewhere and fast forward to the credits, you can see it.

Found it. It is in this clip, at 2’44".

Sorry. I suspected that you might have been misremembering American Humane Association. Thanks for the additional info.

OK. That clip shows under the logo, it says American Humane. It also uses the “No animals were harmed” statement, which is trademarked by American Humane.

According to the site below, that shield is a past logo of American Humane. So possibly a mistake in the written part of the credit.

That seems to make sense. Thank you for finding their old logo.
