Don’t let the “avant garde” sorts on this board lead you to think Titanic was not critically acclaimed. The critics loved Titanic, it has a “Fresh” rating of 82% on RottenTomatoes.com. But there will always be those who will turn up their nose at anything wildly popular, and this message board has an overabundance of such.
Agreed. And it’s one of the very few movies I consider to be better than the books on which they’re based.
Also seconded - Love Actually, Shakespeare in Love, Chocolat, Amelie, Notting Hill. All fantastic movies that I’ll stop and watch when I see them on tv, even though my wife and I own the DVDs.
Anything by Pedro Almodóvar. My favorites are Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, What Have I Done to Deserve This, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, All About My Mother . . . just about all of his films.
Also, a romantic comedy that rarely gets mentioned in romantic comedy threads-- Fools Rush In.
