It’s easy bein’ green.
One day, Gandalf showed up at the doorstep of Bilbo, and they set off on an adventure to recover the stolen treasure of the dwarves from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo was successful in his quest, but along the way, he found a magic ring in the lair of the creature Gollum, who was once known as Smeagol.
Bilbo kept the ring for many years. Then he left for Rivendell, the home of the elf-lord Elrond. He gave the ring to his nephew Frodo at the insistence of Gandalf.
Frodo eventually discovered (with the aid of Gandalf) that the ring his uncle gave him once belonged to the dark lord Sauron. It was, in fact, the one ring. So Frodo set out for Rivendell, along with his friends, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. In Bree, they met a man named Strider, who was a friend of Gandalf. He volunteered to take them to Rivendell.
Along the way, they had a run-in with the Nazgul, who attacked Frodo and poisoned him. Nonetheless, they all made it to Rivendell with the aid of the elves.
