What countries take American refugees

I know, I didn’t say it would be easy. But 200,000 from all the very blue states should be possible. Wyoming makes a big difference of course. 2 Senators is a big swing. Helps with the Electoral College also.

So, we need to establish a small city in Wyoming, maybe bring in a couple of large employers. That’s what I’m reading.

A Chip or Solar Panel factory would make sense. Actually maybe both.

Having 200,000 people move from California to Wyoming might seem to be easy, but actually it would be almost impossible to persuade that many people. In a typical year, about 3,000 people make that move. So we’re talking about moving around 60 times as many people as normal.

The same goes for any of the schemes that people occasionally come up with to change the politics of a region by moving large numbers of people. Do the math, and the numbers required always turn out to be unreasonable.

Yes, of course it isn’t easy. It was expressed as a pipe dream. Hell you are actually replying to a post where I said, “I didn’t say it would be easy.”

Sure, sure. Sign me up!

Some of us belong to ethnic groups that are traditionally first targeted when populist regimes take power.

If the US went Fascist fleeing to Canada sounds about as wise as fleeing Germany by going to Poland.

Regarding many mentions of climate, if I was fleeing persecution, that would not be a priority.

As to whether American asylum seekers would be welcome abroad, a lot depends on the number of applicants. Thousands will be more welcome than millions. Then there is the receiving nation’s political climate. I think this will matter more than current laws, which can and will change.

I fear that if the U.S. got so bad that large numbers of LGBT people were seeking asylum abroad, some of the increasing bigotry would be have international spread. So the biggest question about Mexico vs. Canada could be — where will I be welcome, not where will I have a harsh winter.

Then there is the question of getting a job.

This is a good point.

However, Trump supporters are more interested in fighting Mexico. And in the grand sweep of history, Canada has a better record for defending itself militarily, against the U.S., than does Mexico.
