My husband is a huge, HUGE, Clint Eastwood fan and has been for many years. He refused to watch the Oscars the year that Grand Torino wasn’t nominated!
I know Clint spoke at the RNC, and said things, I don’t know…interesting? I didn’t watch, and don’t care to watch. But I wouldn’t mind to read a transcript. Know where I might find one?
Next day, after the speech, when I mentioned his good buddy Clint, hubby (also a Liberal!), loudly announced- “He’s dead to me!”
It’s hard to know - he basically had an argument with a chair - pretended that President Obama was sitting in the chair and argued about…something? Since the audience could only hear one side - it was hard to know what point he was trying to make. It was…odd.
I for one am reluctant to watch it because I expect near-fatal levels of contact embarrassment. But I am curious too, so it’s not totally out there to want a rundown or even transcript, without wanting to watch the video, IMHO.
I felt bad for Clint as he fumbled his way through that “speech”. Its apparent that he really is now a quite old man. Twenty years ago his delivery would have been devastating. He just couldn’t pull it off.
He was only supposed to speak for three minutes. He went on and on for over 11 minutes. That’s why you start to see the pained looks on some of the faces of the bigwigs of the party.
Is there anything as uncomfortable as being embarrassed for someone else? Now throw in someone who has been widely admired for years (for art not politics, but still!), and the ick factor goes way up. Now throw in that it’s a 79yr old man, now it feels outright disrespectful to me. I’d want the world to be kinder to any elderly relative of mine, with fading abilities.
