What did Clint say, exactly.

I see what you did there.

Damn, you’re hilarious.

This was so deliciously ironic given that Romney might as well be called not-Obama. Romney is the “any Republican would be better than Obama” that Republicans cringe that they’re stuck with.

You sincerely believe this? Man, I remember when both sides here actually cared about that fighting ignorance thing… now we get comments like this, and we’ve got others (good ol’Bricker comes to mind) devolving into partisan robots.

I swear, the righties on this board are pushing me more leftie.

is there any sort of poll out there that breaks down how people watching Clint’s speech reacted to it? nailed to wall / meh / embarassing etc?

I’m starting to fear that they will push me so far left I’m going to end up to the right of them.

My husband and sister-in-law watched it while I did something on the computer - I was aware of it, but not really paying attention. I finished up whatever I was doing, and then started paying better attention towards the end of his speech. It wasn’t bad, in this liberal’s eyes, so much as it was…bumbling, I guess. I respect Mr. Eastwood, and I really really liked his Superbowl halftime commercial - that had a real message, I thought, regardless of your political leanings.

SpouseO and SIL thought that this speech wasn’t as bad as Stewart and Colbert (and various others) had made out. I thought it rather looked like a sad, lost old man ranting at the kids to get off his lawn. It really cemented the image of the current Republican party being incredibly out of touch, to me. It’s been mentioned in a couple of the Elections threads that in this day of economic uncertainty, growing marginalization of the middle class, and general distrust of corporations and their mismanagement of consumer confidence, the absolute worst person the Republicans could choose is uber-wealthy, corporate, plastic Ken Doll Mitt Romney. And just when they’re being questioned about their commitment to and inclusion of women and minorities, they choose someone fully playing the part of a doddering, white haired, old white man for a high-profile speech in their convention? Really? Just after being taken to task about how old, white, and male their party and convention-goers seem to be? Really??

Eastwood’s speech seemed to me to totally derail their message in favor of same old, same old, is what I’m trying to say. It definitely didn’t help their image in my eyes.

There’s a thread right now in MPSIMS or IMHO that talks about gore vs. social embarrassment. I want to see it, but I cringe even thinking about it. Even though its happening to people I don’t like, I can’t get over the awkwardness of what I know happened. I just can’t watch it, I don’t know why

Wait - am I misremembering, or did I read something online that said Eastwood made a throat-slashing gesture?

It’s hardly Clint’s fault – the empty chair wouldn’t shut up.

This is how stupid the Republican base is.

Think about that.

Yup - at about 15 seconds in, in this video:

I think the lefties are scared of Clint Eastwood. That’s it. He really nailed Obama, and they are terrified that they’ll make Clint a permanent part of the campaign. Scared to death.

(Remember when liberals were all “scared to death” of Palin? Yes, folks like 'ol Clothahump were pumping Palin up the same way)

I tried and I just can’t. It was like watching The Office Christmas episode with Michael’s iPod gift. Except this was real, and in front of an audience. I think I couldn’t have finished it even if it was Palin.

Yeah it is just way too sad for me, and I’m no Eastwood fan. Saw enough on the Daily Show to get an idea of how embarrassing it must have been.

Don’t throw me in the briar patch, Br’er Fox! :stuck_out_tongue:

I am a huge fan of Clint Eastwood. I have enjoyed his movies for years and years, both ones he starred in and ones he directed.

However, that doesn’t mean his political opinions are important to me. I usually don’t bother with a star’s political message. If we were sitting having beers together, I might be interested in a political exchange, but just sitting and listening to him because he is a star - well I can’t be bothered.

I also don’t think anyone here could peg me as being particularly right *or *left.

But based on all the hoopla I tried to watch it.

It was as bad as people have been saying. It was rambling and embarrassing and painful and dull and… well, pretty much what people have been saying.

And you clowns are still terrified of Palin. Deal with it.

Terrified of her in the way that you’re terrified of the retarded frat boy your bosses are all enamored of.

Wait, there are people who think it’s a good idea to give this person power?:frowning:

Dear Og. Just when the doctors thought there might be some glimmer of hope for **Clothy **to emerge from his persistent vegetative state …
