What did everyone thing of the Friends season finale 5/15/2003?

I loved the episode and CG almost had to duct tape my mouth shut because I was screaming at the TV for Joey to turn around and go back into Rachel’s room (which he did YAAAAAAAY!)
I can’t wait to see the next season.

IDBB

Joey and Rachel? Having watched Rachel for 10 years that just seems so wrong. And if they were anybody other then two of the leading roles in a sitcom my first thought would be “This is going to end badly.”

Unless this is all going according to Phoebe’s prediction.

I like Mike. He’s the best written boyfriend Phoebe ever had. So I’m glad he’s back. Sorry for David though. Poor guy. Poor, poor bastard. Although he’s always been the idiot who went to Minsk. I REALLY had a crush on Phoebe in those early seasons. What a moron.

You and me both, Trion. I’m hoping for her to star in a spin-off, myself.

I totally forgot that Ross said that to Charley “I have been SOOO wrong” or something, that was hilarious.

And I think when Rachel laughed at “homo” it was just to show how her and Joey think the same things are funny.

And, to be honest, I wouldn’t mind at all if Ross and Rachel got back together. They’ve been teasing us with it long enough. haha

ALSO, just wanted to say that I don’t think Joey kissed Rachel out of spite for Ross. I just thought he held back from kissing her to begin with because he didn’t want to be disrespectful of Ross, but when he saw Ross with Charley it made him realize he didn’t have to worry about it, since Ross obviously wasn’t.

whew.

Like Lsura I didn’t see the episode and would appreciate a rundown of what happened.

So far, I’ve pieced together that:

  1. Joey and Rachel kissed (and apparently are now doing the horizontal mambo).

  2. Ross kissed Charley (the black chick from the paleo dept.? I’ve missed the last several episodes but caught last week.)

  3. Pheobe did something horrible to David, who is now back from Minsk permanently, and this horrible thing apparently involved Mike. Damn, this show could really benefit from having Hank Azaria on a regular basis if they’re going to continue to milk it like this.

  4. Rachel goes trolling for sex in Barbados.

OK Ross is giving a key note speech to this huge group of paleontologist in Barbados. It’s real important to him, sooooo all the friends tag along.

Ross is treated like a god by the paleontologists; Joey is ignored; and it rains (so friends are bored). And Monica’s hair gets frizzy in humidity. and gets bigger and bigger and bigger…

Chandler erases Ross’s speech (email virus) and Ross and Charley stay up all night to rewrite it. Joey and Rachel bust into a pharmacists convention in the hotel and have fun. Phoebe’s minsk guy tries to propose, but meddling brings Mike down who says he wants a future with her, which she says is enough for her. David leaves. Ross gives speech; all paleo. love Ross; Joey and Rachel giggle at words like “homo” and “erectus”.

Monica and Mike get into the PING PONG MATCH FROM HELL. (Mike eventually wins.) Charley and Joey realize they have nothing in common and break up. Rachel tell Joey that she has feelings for him (it takes him a while to catch on). Joey says he doesn’t want to hurt Ross. Joey leaves. Ross and Charley figure out that they have TONS in common and she kisses Ross. Joey sees this and goes back to Rachel and kisses her.

I really need to get a life.

No, actually Chandler wins. (Monica hurt her hand, and so Chandler took her place for a round of sudden death. He won the point and thus the match, and it turns out he’s been hiding how good he is from Monica so she won’t enter them in a bunch of tournaments.)

Did NBC show alternate scenes in different time zones? I saw Monica injure herself and Chandler take over for her. Although Monica always thought Chandler sucked at table tennis, Chandler ended up winning and repeating the “And that is how it’s done” line other characters had employed earlier in the episode. Monica wondered why she had never known about her husband’s talents, and exclaimed: “We could enter tournaments as a doubles team!” Chandler responded, “That’s why!”

There was also a very (apparently) gay professor from Cornell “hitting on” Ross and issuing an insistent “You really must come to my cabin” invitation, but the good Dr. Geller was rescued when the Cornell prof’s wife showed up to reclaim her husband.

I saw it, and I thought it was very funny. But I’ve missed so many episodes before, I didn’t know who Charley was.

My station went to a commercial right after Monica hurt her hand. I hate my local station. What else did I miss?

Nope. No indication of any mamboishness going on.

Wow, I feel so…at home here. I thought I was the only one left who is still watching “Friends”. My thoughts on the season finale; Joey and Rachel - sure, why not? Dread Husband Jimbo thought that Joey kissed her out of spite from seeing Ross, but I’m not sure - Joey has always surprised us with how big his heart is, and I’m hoping that was the case here, too.

The scene with Joey, Rachel and the nametags - that was laugh-out-loud hysterical. It looked like they barely managed to get a take in the bag without one or both of them bursting out laughing. Phoebe back with Mike - for good (supposably). I like Mike; Hank Azaria is pretty damn funny, though.

What about Monica and Chandler not being able to conceive? That was quite a moment, I must say. And scaring John Stamos like that - that’s just fun.

I have to say, though, I was extremely disappointed at the “Rachel likes a Friend who used to like her but who just started dating someone else and she wants them to bugger off so she can get her way as usual” storyline that was playing out for awhile with Charley. Gee, where have we done that before? Anyone?

A minority in TV New York?!

Inconceivable.

That’s another thing Ross and Charlie realized they had in common, that they had been in relationships with gays. Ross was married to Carol, the lesbian, and Charlie said she’d been engaged to a gay man. They talked for a bit about how mad they were that no one told them, and that after they broke up, everyone was, “Oh, I knew all along.”

Then when the gay professor’s wife showed up, Ross saw how it was from the other side.

…got stuck watching it and the highlight was the INTERPOL song at the end…I guess thats it for INTERPOL now though ,eh?

I got the impression Joey kissed her out of spite, too. He saw Charley and Ross together, and then went back to Rachel.
He liked her before (earlier in the season, or was it last season when she was pregnant?), but held back because of Ross.
Then when Rachel told him she liked him, he held back again because of Ross.
But then when he happened to see Ross and Charley, it was almost like he figured he was entitled to go after her.

I thinking Ross and Rachel will end up together by the end of next season.

Does anyone feel that the season has been lopsided because they seemed to be planning to end it and then got the midnight reprieve from the cast to do one more season?

It is like they were setting up one last Ross/Rachel plotline and then BOOM, left turn so they could string it out and do it at a later time.

It just kind of feels uneven.

And what exactly was wrong with the advice Chandler gave to David? All he said was that David should let Pheobe know that he would be open the the idea of marriage. Sounded good to me. David’s the one who took it too far.

It did look to me that they were working to get Rachel and Ross together in the beginning of the season. The whole "Do you have a boyfriend? “No, I have a Ross” thing.

And, although she was never the brightest bulb in Central Perk, they’ve really dumbed Rachel down lately. I think it’s to make her seem more compatible with Joey.

This scene had one of the funnier (to me, anyway) lines. “Why did Pheobe break up with Mark?” “His penis was too big.”
