What did Ruby have to hide? Or, why did he do it?

Not really. It’s been pretty well established that he was shot in the back of the head on the orders of Tony Accardo. They found the body in the basement with the back of his head blown off.

ASTORIAN: just how “normal” is it for a local criminal (owner of strip bars) to be hanging around police stations? was the Dallas PD so corrupt that they allowed KNOWN shady characters (like Ruby) to just hang around? I had to go to my town’s PD headquarters once (to report an auto accident). The desk sergeant was polite and professional, but as soon as he finished taking down the info, he (politely) asked me to leave. You can’t even go behind the desk…so why was Ruby allowed to roam at will? Do detectives allow people from the street to hang around when they are transferring a prisoner? Whay on earth was a guy like Ruby allowed into Dallas PD headquarters, with NO reason to be there?

Stop right there. JFK is a notoriously crackpot, conspiracy theorist piece of crap. Oliver Stone sees conspiracies in the Sunday comics. Plus, wasn’t Garrison himself nuts?

Have you seen pictures of the transfer of Oswald? It was a mob scene…there were so many reporters and onlookers, that it wouldn’t be hard for Ruby to do what he did.

Wasn’t it already established that he did so regularly?

Don’t we know that he’d snuck in there before by posing as a reporter? You’re talking about a time where security was more lax.

Oh, that’s gonna get misinterpreted…

Diving into my copy of Case Closed, I find references to witnesses who watched the assassination from buildings across Dealey Plaza, but none who actually saw Oswald during the shooting.

DPD HQ was a public building, open and accessible to members of the public. Ruby openly cultivated friendship with the police, apparently because being friendly with the cops is a helpful thing when you’re running a strip club. He wasn’t a big-time crook, so it wasn’t that big a deal for him to drop by the police station and schmooze the cops.

Y’know, if I wanted to silence the assasin I had hired, maybe I’d try to silence the guy before the cops get their mitts on him.

How’s this for a plan: hire a competant, non-loony sniper for the job. Arrange to meet the guy after he completes his mission. Whack the assassin at the meeting. Dispose of the body by time-honored methods. Now THAT’S how you tie up loose ends.

Tying up loose ends by hiring a communist-sympathizing nutcase, arranging for your assassin/patsy to be caught by the cops, then whacking him in broad daylight and allowing the hitman that you sent to silence the assassin to be arrested by the cops…not so much.

Just to confirm MEBuckner’s plausible denial, I did indeed screw up the coding in that reply. Thanks for the hand.

Ah. That’s certainly true. They unravelled the “conspiracy” (and owing to a massive attack of fury covering half the US they executed at least two people who probably didn’t deserve it) within about a day.

Oswald was a flake and a half. IIRC, his parents were lefties with serious Communist sympathies, and he was in youth totally against anything leftist. Then he joined the military and went way right. He went to Russia and hated it, then came back and hated the US. I guess he just wanted to have life handed to him on a silver platter or something.

YDNRC. Oswald’s father died early, and his mother was a run-of-the-mill flake, but neither of them were in any way leftist or communist. Oswald turned to Marxism while still a teenager, and was still dedicatred to it when he was in the Marines, even teaching himself Russian (poorly) while stationed in Japan. He quickly became disullusioned with the Soviet Union after defecting there, but never renounced his Marxism.

Politics aside, Oswald was a disaffected loser with a great sense of self-importance. He did not fit in anywhere, and consequently harbored great resentment for pretty much everyone else.

It’s clear that the mob hired Ruby to hit Oswald because they knew he could never be definitively linked to the mob and that he would never talk. How do we know this? Because Ruby was never definitively linked to the mob and he NEVER TALKED.

Ruby was in the garage at 11:21 to shoot Oswald because that was the real time for the transfer. How do we know this? Because Oswald was in the garage at exactly 11:21.

Ruby knew to take the only unguarded entrance to the garage. How do we know this? Because this is precisely the entrance that Ruby used.

Do you hear those voices?

No! You’re all talking about me behind my back, aren’t you! Fine, keep your secrets!
