What did the Navajo guy say to CSM in The X-Files?

Near the end of Paper Clip, the second episode of the third season of the X-Files, there’s a scene with Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis), Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and Albert Hosteen (Floyd Red Crow Westerman). The scene takes place in Skinner’s office.

Skinner tells CSM, among other things, to “pucker up and kiss my ass.” (My favorite scene from any TV show in the history of the medium). Skinner then brings Hosteen, who’s been waiting outside, into the room.

As Hosteen enters, he says something in Navajo to CSM. What does he say? Enquiring minds want to know!

Tesa!!! Long Time No See!!!

Wait… are you the Tesa who used to come to the Knoxville X-Files discussion group at Borders?

If so, then Laura and Sophie say “hello.”

“Ya-ta-hey belacana/belagaana” (I’m not sure of the spelling.)

It means, “Hello, White Man.”

sigh That should be belacani, not belacana. Sorry.

Yes, it’s me! Hi John! And hi to Sofie and Laura!

waves happily to John!

It’s nice to see a phellow phile on this (or any) discussion board.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve wondered for the last 7 years what it meant.

(Yes, I have no life :P)

Welcome to the SDMB. This is a great board, and I hope you stick around for a while. You might want to do a search on this board for prior X-Files threads… I know there have been quite a number of them, though they’ve dropped off since last May.

Since the OP has been answered, I would like to completely and shamelessly hijack the thread and ask everyone, does “What did the Navajo guy say to CSM in The X-Files?” not sound like some bad joke? If it does, what would be the punchline? I also have no life.

Question: What did the Navajo guy say to CSM in The X-Files?

Answer: Is that a cigarette, or are you just happy to see me?

That’s the best I could do. I figured a bad joke deserved a bad punchline.

Tesa

“You abandoned your what???”

Sorry, Tes. :stuck_out_tongue:
