What did you buy on Prime Day? (not strictly limited to Amazon)

The nerd in me is kinda bummed Prime Day isn’t on 7/19.

Anyhow, my girlfriend just bought “What Do You Meme?” A Cards Against Humanity type card game.

I’ve bought nothing; haven’t even looked at the site. Quite a few Amazon workers are on strike today because of their working conditions and asked that supporters not make purchases while the Prime Day sales run. Since I think in general unions are a good thing (yes, let’s not get into the debate about how unions can be corrupt and ridiculous, I know), I decided to put my money, or my savings in this case, where my mouth is.

A week or two ago I decided I would get my mom an Instant Pot for her birthday (I have one, I love it). Instead of buying it right away to be done with it, I figured I’d hold off until today. It went from $99.99 down to $58.99. Glad I waited on that one. I didn’t think it’d be worth it, I’m surprised they knocked the price down on something that popular.

So far that’s the only thing I’ve picked up. I’ll probably get a couple of other little items, but not too much. I think I have a pair of short in my cart right now for half price and I’ll keep my eyes open for another LED flashlight and/or maybe some electronics/HVAC/automotive tool type stuff.

InstaPot is always a Prime Day favorite. Glad you got one, Joey P! I saw on one of my local FB groups today that the InstaPot price was lower than you’d get at Kohl’s with all of their stacked coupons.

I’ve spent just under $100 right now, but $37 of it was that game I bought for a gift. I’ve bought 3 movies and 4 Kindle books.

Kindle readers/users: If you buy a Kindle book you get a coupon in the value of 30% of that purchase that’s good for your next Kindle purchase, by Oct 15. So if you buy a $20 Kindle book, you get $6 credit towards your next Kindle purchase.

I am always throwing Kindle books in my Wishlist so I went and checked my list today. A lot of books had come down significantly in price (no idea if they are down because of Prime Day or just down because they always come down). I bought a $15 book (Retta’s book) and then used the $4 credit towards a $9 book, and then bought a couple more that were under $5.

I’ve got three kids heading back to college (2 grad, 1 undergrad) they are all living off campus and have said they could just stream things on their laptops. They all have living rooms with big TV’s and high speed internet so when I saw that Fire TV was 50% off I picked up one for each. Thought I was doing pretty good with $115 to cover three kid’s watching for the next several years. Then I noticed a Toshiba 50" Fire TV 4K ultra for under $300. Not the best set, but we need one for the guest room, and it is so easy to hit the submit purchase button. I’m so weak.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. They want to be the leading cloud service provider, and can’t even ensure their own website doesn’t buckle under a load they had months to prepare for? Doesn’t send a great message.

As for prime day, I’ve been needing a new monitor for a long time now, so now I ordered one for nearly half price (compared to list price). Also, I had my eyes on some Lagavulin 16yr, but it seems that sold out…

I arrived at MadMex before my gf, so I was goofing around on my phone. I’ve never owned a rice cooker, and I hate cooking rice, so I ordered an ultra high end rice cooker that had a huge markdown, plus 30% off on top of that.

At checkout my Amazon app acted wonky. For some reason I thought it was just me. A CSR told me in a chat it was due to PrimeDay busyness. I was all, ohhhhhhhhh. Then it went through.

I bought nothing on Amazon. But Barnes & Noble is having a half-price sale on Criterion videos and I bought six blu-rays.

Nothing; I didn’t need anything and my wish list is (for now) empty.

Nothing because GD MF Amazon won’t convert a gift card I have into an Amazon card LIKE THEY SAY THEY WILL, so I can’t buy the one thing I want, the one TV that would be PERFECT for me because Amazon magically decided to suck.
No, I’m not bitter

I’ve never seen that before, I just looked it up and for the hell of it put in a (hypothetical) $35 gift card and got an ‘offer’ of $30.50.
If it’s not working for you call them or pull up a chat window, they’ve always been very helpful.

I didn’t have any problems with the site crashing. I was on just before stuff went live, then came back a couple hours later after a meeting at work.

I bought an Echo Show for just about half price. (I’ve been wanting a video capable one for a while so we can integrate with stuff like a digital doorbell and security cameras.) With that, I added on another smart plug at half price. (This plug will be used as a timer for Christmas lights come that season.)

I also bought a new TV. The kids threw a toy at our old tv and there was a big old dead spot. We’ve been dealing with it for about a year and I’m just done with it. I replaced it with a 50" 4K smart TV – better than the one we had – for about the same price I was seeing used 40-50" non smart TVs on Facebook/Craigslist/LetGo. I just want my toys to come!

I was shopping at Whole Foods, so I got a $10 Prime Day coupon or I wouldn’t have bothered. I bought a $10.40 book with it, Michael Palin’s Pole to Pole, to be exact.

I noticed that Google Chromecasts were on sale elsewhere and ordered one of those. I already have stuff that does similar things but Mrs. FtG doesn’t grok how those work. This will make it easier for her to watch stuff cast from her laptop to the Big Screen. (I hope.)

For some inexplicable reason Amazon doesn’t sell Chromecasts. Let alone have sales on them.

Nope we never got it to work.

But in the ultimate of ironies we ended up finding a website that would do it and we did it…just in time for the deal to end.

I’ll never be happy again.

I used their $5 print books coupon to help buy a few books on British politics that were available at quite low prices. I don’t think they were discounted just for Prime Day but they may have been.

For example, this book was available for $2.80 in hardback and I’ve been wanting to read it.

I didn’t need anything or want anything, altho I did stop at the Amish market on my way home to get some tomatoes.

I’m still waiting for them to ship my Planters Cheez Balls.

Copy of the Dungeons & Dragons DM guide. Between the sale price (dunno if Prime related), $5 coupon and some random $1.85 coupon that popped up, it was $25 after tax. MSRP is $50 so I guess I did alright.

I was about to buy nothing, but they emailed me because they had a lightning sale on one of my wish-list items.

Back to the Future trilogy on Blu-ray dropped to $16.

I bought it. That price is super low.
