What did you watch instead of the Oscars?

I had no interest in the Oscars this year since I hadn’t seen a single thing nominated for anything. I should’ve watched The Amazing Race but forgot it was on again, dammit. I ended up watching the Spanish language version of “Dracula.” Shot at night on the same sets as the Lugosi “Dracula,” some film critics have claimed it’s the superior of the two. I got it last week as part of the “Dracula Legacy Collection” DVD box set, which also includes the Lugosi version, “Daughter of Dracula,” “Son of Dracula,” “House of Dracula” and some random special features. Not sure if I agree that the Spanish version is better but it is definitely as good.

The local PBS station aired a special on Milwaukee. (I actually flipped between that and the Oscars)

One of Milwaukee’s Lutheran churches offered service in German until 1986.

Brian

The train wreck in the Pit.

Famous Dogfights, that being on The History Channel, not The Animal Network.

The Discovery Channel fan-made spoof special.

John Waters’ A Dirty Shame.

A few episodes of The Simpsons, season six. I had a friend over for Simpsons monopoly and we did that while playing.

We taped the Oscars and will fast-forward through the ads tonight; we watched the conclusion of PBS’s rebroadcast of Prime Suspect 6, in which Det. Supt. Jane Tennison closes a double-homicide case involving survivors of the Bosnian War. Well-crafted and engaging. It starred Helen Mirren, who deservedly won an Oscar last night for her leading role in The Queen.

I finished reading H.M.S. Surprise and moved on to The Mauritius Command.

A friend of mine goes to a Milwaukee church (Catholic) where they still do a service in Polish.

I went out and saw Hannibal Rising last night instead of watching the Oscars.

The insides of my eyelids. I slept through most of the Oscars.

We played catch-up on some of this week’s DVR’d shows – Law & Order: CI and Psyche.

I did remember TAR (though I went and took a shower during the airport stuff at the beginning of the show); switched over the Oscars for 45 minutes or so; went to bed.

Watched the sunday lineup on Fox.

I watched The Amazing Race and then turned the TV off. It was kind of nice.

Watched The Amazing Race and The Dresden Files.

The Amazing Race (already soooo sick of Rob and Ambah) and then Curb Your Enthusiasm (The Larry David Sandwich ep).

Simpsons repeats, tonight’s Heroes (which Global aired last night) - ALL SORTS OF AWESOME! - Odd Job Jack, and You Spoof Discovery Channel.

First I cooked myself a nice dinner (beef tenderloin with a chocolate/espresso/cinnamon rub, roasted red potato, steamed baby bok choy). Then I fired up the TiVo, and watched Anthony Bourdain, Iron Chef America, and Battlestar Galactica. There was also some occasional XBOX in there.
