What do all of you like on your weiners?

As usual, I’m reading old topics from the past on here.
So I’m reading a pit thread from last Jan and I come across this post…which is actually just reiterating something someone else said about it.
Wow, I had no idea that there was distain in this world for people who put ketchup on their hot dogs. Me, I like ketchup on mine. I always thought it was a must. Like, a hot dog isn’t a hot dog without ketchup (oh, and mustard too. I actually like mustard more on my hot dogs than ketchup, but still, ketchup is a must as well).
Some things I don’t always have to have on my franks are: Chili, green peppers, and MAYBE relish. If I’m in the mood for it.

Things that will NEVER go on my weiner are:

Saurkraut- EW. NO thank you. I don’t want my dog to smell like something eaten already and then vomited up.

Mayo or Miracle Whip- Uh, no. Mayo or Miracle whip does not go on a hot dog. It’s a law. Yup.
Okay, not really but what kind of sicko are you if you do that?*

Onions- I don’t like onions on ANYTHING actually since I just despise onions in general. So keep them far away from my Ballpark, thanks.
What about you? What do you enjoy or put on your hot dog?

*said jokingly, of course.

A proper hot dog has to following, in some combination: mustard, relish, onions, kraut, peppers, and chili.

“People” who put ketchup on hotdogs probably run rabbits, jacklight deer, subvert the Republic, and will undoubtably bring us to the End of Civilization.

I love ketchup on mine. Onions too.

It depends on where I’m getting the dog.

At Pink’s, it’s mustard, onions and chili.
At Dodger Stadium, it’s mustard and onions.
At Canter’s deli, it’s a knockwurst with mustard.
At home, it’s just a dog and mustard.

Mustard is the key ingredient. What kind of mustard? Well, just plain old yellow mustard (French’s or Heinz) does me just fine. Occasionally I like some Gulden’s spicy brown instead, and occasionally I’ll smear some sort of sweet-hot mustard stuff when I’m in a weird mood.

Psst. the real answer to the OP’s title is, of course: my wife.

Rufe, we have to meet at a Dodgers game this season. The dogs are on me. Our wives can talk about us behind our backs while we sneer at whatever disasterous move McCourt has made.

Plochman’s is the best yellow mustard.

Once in a while, I like them bare naked. Other times I prefer brown mustard, relish, and /or chili. But only one topping at a time.

Avoiding the obvious straightline…

I recently had my first Chicago Dog and really liked it, especially the tomatoes. My absolute fave, though, cholesterol and calories not being a factor, is real chili (i.e. thick stuff, not the “hot dog chili” variety), gobs of mayo, grey poupon, ketchup and chopped boiled peanuts.

Mustard and, if I’m feeling fancy, fried onions.

YUM.

A little yellow mustard (if you must!!! LOL…I slay me)

And a little ketchup.

about a 3:1 ratio.

Sampiro. Omigod. WHERE CAN YOU GET CHOPPED BOILED PEANUTS ON A HOT DOG AT???

Saliva.

French’s yellow mustard, and sweet relish. Occasionally, with diced onions and tomatoes. If those are included, just a dash of salt on top.

I really miss the hot dog place at Port Dover, on Lake Erie, where you got foot-long hot dogs, and the choice of about 20 items to put on it. They had shredded cheeses and coleslaw and all kinds of stuff. Yum!

If I’m just having wieners, I like to make Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, and add a can of tomatoes (stewed, diced, what-have-you), bring it back up to simmer, and spoon it on top of three or four naked wieners. We had it last week!

Sigh… Fine. Looks like I’ll have to do it.

Q: What do all of you like on your weiners?

A: Tulips.

My preferred mustard for hot dogs is Bertman Ballpark Mustard . No, I’m not from Cleveland - I read about this mustard years ago in a book devoted to mail-order foods, and I’ve been ordering it ever since.

I do not like ketchup on hot dogs. I like ketchup on hamburgers and fries, but I don’t like it on any type of sausage. I just don’t think the flavors go together.

I like pickled veggies on hot dogs: relish, sauerkraut, pickled peppers. . . I don’t consider this stuff essential, but will add it if it’s available.

Are there any Chicagoans here to tout the wonders of Chicago-style hot dogs (with so many pickles and condiments there’s more veggies than meat)?

My real quest is for the perfect hot dog bun. Most of them are either too fragile or too bulky/doughy for my taste. Any nominations?

I like either:

Brown mustard (or yellow, if it’s the only option), onions, sauerkraut, and possibly relish

OR

Chili, cheese, and onions

OR

Chili, mustard, onions, and creamy cole slaw (a West Virginia dog)

Mustard, preferably Heinz.

If it’s a Polish sausage dog, add saurkraut.

Since Rufus Xavier took my punch line, I’m just going to have to stick with answering the OP.

Mustard is the bare essential. I can live without the other toppings, but mustard is a must. Yellow in a pinch, brown is nice, but dijon that can sting my sinuses is my favorite.

Next up would be onions. Typically raw, but fried onions would be wonderful, especially with fried peppers and mushrooms.

Sauerkraut can be good, but the quality is hit-or-miss.

Chili dogs (with cheese) are on a separate level altogether. One of my all time favorite foods that will never, ever go wrong.

But no ketchup.

Ketchup Only

or chili

I love Chicago hot dogs, but since I live in PA, I haven’t been able to find a suitable outlet.

Otherwise, I like ketchup and relish OR cheese. I can’t do mustard on hot dogs very often because I have problems with acid reflux and mustard is an offender. :frowning:

Robin

If I am doing a batch of hot dogs for teens I get them to build their own. The makings are:

dogs
buns
fried onions
chili
baked beans (for the weak)
grated cheese(s)
spicy red tomato sauce
thai sweet chili sauce
DL Jardine’s Blazing Saddles
american mustard
grilled bacon
salsa

I am surprised that everyone doesn’t start a hot dog by laying a strip of bacon in the bun (mind you I mean Aussie bacon - 90% meat).

He lives in the deep south. You can get chopped boiled peanuts put on anything there.

For me, ketchup, cheese, and sometimes onions and chili. NO mustard or relish ever.
