What do I need to hook an XBOX up to my computer monitor?

I have an LCD flatscreen monitor at home and sadly, it’s the best TV in the house. Is there a way to hook up my XBOX through it?

If so, is there some kind of switcher so I can flip back and forth between the computer and the game console?

Lastly, has anybody done this and do you advise it? I realize the XBOX will not always run games at a resolution that will do the monitor justice, but it’d be much easier to read some of the tiny print in games like Morrowind or Knights of the Old Republic than to squint at the blurry TV screen I’m using now. Is this an improvement worth attempting?

Try the XBox Advanced AV pack?

It has an adapter with SVideo out, if your monitor supports that for input.

The other item you’d be looking for is a swtichbox. Assuming your monitor has an svideo input and your computer an svideo output there are a lot of video switch boxes on the market that will do this for you.

A tv card would work. Although the picture would only be as good as a/v cables allow.

Some LCD monitors can be fitted with an optional TV tuner. The samsung range for example. Otherwise, you could get a TV-Tuner for your computer and run it through there. Alternatively, there are S-video to VGA converters, although expensive, probably slightly cheaper than a TV-Tuner but not as versatile. Depends if your going to be wanting a TV-in for any other purpose (watching normal TV on your computer and recording it perhaps.)

Also, if you go for a TV-tuner, make sure to choose one that can support HDTV as the Xbox can output up to 1080i resolution.

Thos are friggen expensive. The cheapest one I could find was 200 bucks. I saw one thats partially hd. for 100 bucks. It supported up to 480i.

An analoge tuner might not have has good of picture but the tuners are alot cheap
