Lunchtime is in a couple of hours. What do I want?
Footlong Subway veggie sandwich
(With spicy jack cheese) Cheap, just across the street, tasty with the Sriracha I have at my desk.
Phố, đặc biệt
Huge serving, very tasty, and I get to walk about half a mile round-trip.
Taco del Mar fish tacos
I’ve had better, but they’re the only place I know for fish tacos near the office. Tasty enough, and it’s been a while since I’ve had a fish taco.
Falafel or shawarma sandwich
If I go to the place by the Pike Place I should call ahead. Very good food and I get to walk almost a mile (r/t), but deadly slow. There’s a falafel place around the corner from my office, and another down the block. Of course I can make falafel at home, so maybe a shawarma is in order.
Phố, đặc biệt is Vietnamese soup containing raw beef (it cooks in the broth), well-done beef, beef tendon, tripe, beef meatballs, onions, bean sprouts, fresh basil, sliced fresh chile, cilantro, a lime wedge, and of coure, noodles.
I would do pho, although the falafel or schwarma runs a close second. Absolutely no way on Subway, and I’ve never had Taco del Mar fish tacos, so I can’t speak to that.
While it’s not an all time favorite or anything, I quite like a Subway veggie sandwich—It’s a salad on a bun, filling and tasty without making you feel too full or bloated…
I havent tried Taco Del Mar, but for fast food joints, Rubios does a good job on fish tacos, and they also have a grilled shrimp burrrito that is mighy tasty.
Of course a falafel is always good, although around these parts not easy to find (there are only a handful of places you can get one anywhere in the greater Salt Lake City metro area.)
I vote for Subway. It’s “Twofer Tuesday” at my local franchise, meaning if you buy a footlong of specified type and a drink, you get a second footlong of equal or lower cost for free. Dunno if the veggie sammich is one of the twofer candidates though. I usually get a Subway Club.
I went for the phố, đặc biệt and a couple of gỏi cuốn thit noung. They’re either going to have to get bigger containers, or cut down on their portion size. No room in the ‘cup’ for the tripe or bean sprouts yet. They gave me six or seven slices of seranno instead of the usual three. I chopped them up and they all went into the soup.
