I thought about that as the name, but rejected it because it’s too fucking oxymoronic and the word “intelligent” might be taken as a backhanded comment, when really, they all deserve a good forehand smash to the head. While holding a tennis racket, ideally.

The word “troll” is neat because it has two completely different but highly appropriate meanings; “Troll” in the sense of trying to catch something - in this case, to try to get people to respond to a dumb message - or “troll” in the sense of a monster that hides in the dark.
I can’t think of any way to extend the fishing metaphor, but why not some sort of monster with a little bit more brain power? Just thinking about everquest and D&D, you could call them “Orcs.” Or “Goblins.” Or maybe “Gollums,” if you wanted to be a little Tolkienesque. How about “Ogres”? Nah, already has a meaning. “Hobs” as short for “hobgoblin”?
Going on record here to officially protest the inclusion of the Byro Man in the List of Willfully Obtuse People. What Dropzone said in the flame thread says it for me:

Upon reading the GD thread in question, I must agree with DDG. BickByro is most certainly not acting in a trollish manner, and he appears also not to be a dedicated conspiracy freak. It seems to me that he is merely calling into question that which most of the posters accept as fact. He is doing so in an intelligent manner (besides being formatting impaired). So he frustrates you. Big schmeal. Answer him point by point. After all, this is exactly what he is doing. Convince him.

I kinda favor Byro too- I haven’t read all his stuff, but what I have read doesn’t seem to be quite on for trolling, re DDG’s and DZ’s remarks. There’s a faint whiff now and then, but I’ve seen worse from other, more ‘frequent’ poster in some of the shit-sticking contests here in the pit.
Having said that, and having no opinion on the others mentioned (or not, as the case may be), (as I haven’t read enough of their stuff to feel comfortable forming an opinion) how about
