What do you call a Pope made a saint?

Saint Pope? Does one title supersede the other?

Saint trumps pope.

Surely a true saint would not deem it appropriate to correct you.

Tris

They take the papal name. The last sanctified Pope was St Pius X (1903-1914), although the Blessed John XXIII (1958-1963) may be sanctified in due course… List here.

A Paint? A Sope?

There is only one Pope.

You are a Saint eternally.

Seems to me you shuck off the earthly title when you pass on the silly hat.

Tris

Since you have to be dead to be canonized, I’d assume not.

Oh, I was thinking how you would greet Saint Pope in Heaven.

Tris

Well, you would greet him as “Your Holiness”. When gossiping behind his back, you would refer to him as “Saint XYZ”. And when discussing historical matters, you would refer to him as “Pope XYZ”.

Saint Pope _______ the Great

What if you’re elected President of the United States, made Pope upon leaving office, and canonized after your death?

Darth Sensitive

In general I’m not sure, but I hear his friends call him Moose.

If we can have Susan Saint James, I see no reason not to have Pope Saint John.

Seriously, the Catholic Encyclopedia uses Pope St. (name) (regnal number)

They sell little St. Pius X medals online. They haven’t yet taken my suggestion that they market them as Pope-on-a-Rope, though.

Can’t. He and Jill had a major blowout in 1959 and haven’t spoken since.

Bit of a tangent – how would a Pope who resigns the office be addressed? Would he still be “Your Holiness”?

Anyone with any importance and coolness should be called Darth.

If anyone wants to canonize Alexander Pope, then he could be Saint Pope.

Wouldn’t he be St. Alexander or St. Alexander Pope? (Not that it’s bloody likely.)
