I’ve got a stack about 18 inches high of old software CD’s. (Without cases) Software I’ll never use again, and probably won’t run on most computers today.
Being the “conservationist when it’s convenient” person I am, I hate to just throw them away.
The local library doesn’t want them, Salvation Army doesn’t want them. I could give them away at our next rummage sale, but I’m figuring I’d still have 17 1/2 inches of disks when I’m through.
What does the average doper do with unwanted CD’s?
My first thought is that a school (or perhaps an independent artist) might like to have them for art projects. I have seen some cool stuff made out of old CDs.
You could try putting them up on eBay and see what happens!
I have this friend who shares a room with her sister and they had a side of the room each… my friend is really, really tidy but her sister would live in a pigsty if she’d get away with it… after a few million years of whinging her sister created a curtain made out of old PC CD’s, little hooks and a large strong length of chain to separate the room a bit… and it looks really good
My friend has a flail composed of at least a thousand AOL CDs. Good for scaring away demons. Or his cats. This follows an episode where another friend took an entire rack of AOL CDs (one of those cardboard standup jobs holding tons of the things) from the local Barnes & Noble. The employees didn’t care–why should they?
I suppose one can make interesting clothing from a bunch of CDs. What do I think though? Pitch 'em.
Over an open flame, like a candle, with an open window, you can mold them into tiny bowls. ( I haven’t done this, but is does get smelly and they can be flammable.)
My bros and I use my coasters as targets for his pellet gun. It’s fun (playing with any fire arm is (shut up you, I know pellet guns aren’t firearms)), the pellet makes a pick sound, puts a hole in the CD, and at the end of the day, there is shiny reflective crap all over the rock, makes the rock look purdy.
If you use them for targets, put some tape on them so they hold together under fire, otherwise they will fall apart after only a few shots (hits).
