What do you have trophies for?

I’m talking about awards type trophies, not things like lopped off animals heads, btw.

So what do you have actual trophies for?

I have one for Best Supporting Actress from high school, and one for 2nd place at the state level for an art poster contest when I was in 8th grade. I’ve won a number of awards as an adult, but those have come with cash prizes, not trophies.

Do ribbons count? Because I have about 263 of those for brewing. Plus a few “Best Of Show” trophies for same.

eta: And a F-104 helmet that I won for drawing rockets back in 2nd grade. It sits on top of the stereo 45 years later.

Sure, I guess ribbons count. In that case I have several “Best of Show,” one “First Place,” and one “Second Place” ribbons for art contests.

I have a Third Place trophy for Algebra from a math tournament in junior high. I have a Best First Baseman trophy from baseball. I have several soccer participation trophies.

If we are counting ribbons, can we count medals? If so, I have lots of Academic Decathlon medals (bronze, silver and gold) for regional, state and national competitions including my gold medal for first place in the nation for Speech. (Yes, seventeen years later, I am still very proud of that.)

Oh, and I have a second place and a third place ribbon for Pumpkin Decorating contests and a first place ribbon for an Easter Basket Decoration contest.

I also share a trophy for winning the Northeast Tennessee Technology Council Tech-Star Award for best new innovation in 2009.

I had a couple of tennis trophies from HS, but the only one I have now is a special, ironic award for Most Tiebreaks Played on the summer ladder a few years ago. This was because I had at least one in every single match I played, and I played a lot of matches that summer.
(Great serve + so-so rest of game = never losing serve, never breaking serve)

They were really into giving out awards that year. Another person won for Most Matches Played. She didn’t even win half of them. I think they just wanted to acknowledge that some of us had spent a hell of a lot of money there, that summer.

My wife tossed most of mine, but what I can remember:
2 first place trophies, little league baseball.
Batting champion.
2nd and 3rd place little league trophies.
Public speaker of the year trophy.
1st and 2nd place trophies, pool tournaments.
Couple of medals here and there too.

I have a Best in Show medal from a graphic design competition, if we’re mentioning medals.

I have a couple of racquetball trophies for winning competitions at the clubs I’ve belonged to.
I still have a little plastic trophy from a costume contest from when I was a kid for “Best Contest”. I got my mother to make a black form-fitting suit, and I painted a skeleton on it in fluorescent paint.

I think I have a Pinewood Derby trophy from Cub Scouts.
The oddest one is a trophy for – well, I don’t think it’s for anything. It was sent to me by my uncle, not all that long before he died. I think he might have been trying to make up for not communicating with the family for a long time.

I had one for best Actor in high school. I’m not sure what happened to it, and it has likely hit the trash bin long ago.

I had an acrylic desk thingy given to me by a company for outstanding performance. I am pretty sure that hit the bin too (although it may be in the basement somewhere.)

I have none and I never had. Is that unusual or does it just reflect my location (Scandinavia vs. the US, for instance)?

I have, sitting on top of my computer desk, an award I was given in college for “Most Improved Actor”. It’s a heavy brass stylized flame, with representations of the masks of comedy and tragedy on either side.

Somewhere in the trash at my old office, left behind when I retired, is a large plaque acknowledging my thirty years of government service. Oh, and a matching plaque they gave me when I retired.

I have 2 boxes of trophies from when I drove race cars. I think there is about 30 of them. Likely not worth anything except to me.

Spelling and trivia.

I have a bunch of fencing trophies from college (plus one from a 5K race where I was the only runner in my category!). I keep them in my office at work. Sends a definite “Don’t mess with me or I’ll run you through” message.

Speech Tournament, 1st place, Humorous Interpretation. Other than that, several from work for Employee of the Month and stuff like that.

At first I had a large collection of singles tournament and league championships. Then I had a string of running trophies including a marathon win. I decided the trophies meant nothing to me or others and threw them all out long ago. Life is a personal challenge and I know whether I am winning or not without third party confirmation.

Or run away.

I used to have a bowling trophy for best average in my league when I was 12, but I threw it away before one of our big moves. (I think. There’s a small chance it may be lurking in the garage somewhere.)

I also have my ribbon for each year that I participated in state marching band competition. Two reds for a II, and two blues for a I.

Sharpshooting and horseback riding. But I tossed them years ago, and haven’t done either in a decade at least.
