What do you name your car?

I just got my first car and all of my friends and my parents name their cars. Is that normal? If so, what did you name yours?

I’ve only known one person who actually named their car, and I thought it was really weird of him to do that. My car is a machine that I make regular use of. I wouldn’t name a car any more than I would name a vacuum cleaner, a refrigerator, or a microwave oven.

My first car was a grey 1971 Mustang. I named it The Apocalypse.

I don’t find it that wierd. We name ships, homes, plots of land, and computers (my computer is named ‘Jospehine’).

I’ve been thinking of naming my car as well. Giving something a name gives it a more personal touch. Haven’t settled on a name yet…

My current car isn’t named, but my old car was The Zero. It was Japanese, it could be shot down by anything (including a stiff breeze), had no radio, and was hideously unreliable.

You didn’t name your vacuum cleaner? Man that’s weird, I named mine Felicia, after a girl who left me for another. I keep her shiny with windex and a special cloth I keep just for her, lovingly stroking her bag compartment and…thats normal isn’t it??Isn’t it??

The only things I feel comfortable naming are large vehicles like aircraft carriers, ships, and the space shuttle. And even then, the names are always objectified, like the Enterprise.

I don’t even name animals unless they’re a pet.

This guy is rich. Can I borrow a dollar?

Rich farmer?

Too much coffee for me

I’ve named every car I’ve ever had since my very first one. So do all of my family and friends. My boyfriend’s mom’s old 1979 black Cadillac’s name is Nat’lie. She also has a beautiful restored 1960 something ford p/u names Chester.

My caddy’s name is Miss Melonie. My classic 1969 Buick Riviera’s name is Truli. My first car’s name was Blanche DuBois, she was a 1964 white cadillac. I had an old red caddy with a huge smashed in part on the driver’s side that we named “Trainwreck”.

I don’t know very many people that don’t name their cars, even if it’s just something boring and obvious like Nellie or Betsy.

We have a Saturn named Holst and a Nissan pickup named Mique el Troque. I don’t know why we name 'em, but it’s a bit more fun to say “we driving Holst or Mique today?” than “are we taking the Saturn or the truck?”

Let’s see . . .

The father’s Suburban (circa '79) is known as The Tuna Boat.

The station wagon my brother drove when we were in high school was called “Ramblin’ Wreck” by our mom and “The Shitmobile” by the rest of us.

My Saturn coupe abides by T.S. Eliot’s provisions for the naming of cats. Her public name is Sweetie Pie. My father calls her The Mankiller. Her secret name is Pocket Venus.

My car is referred to as “the Tank”, because it’s big and clunky… and it drinks fuel like you wouldn’t believe, hence the tank is always in need of refilling. A nice double meaning

I drive a Honda. His name is Fenry.

My best friend named his car “The Razor.” Another friend named his “The Squirrel Slaughterer.”

My own POS is “El Dente.” Get it? Dented? Ha.

Well, it was funny back in high school.

I didn’t name my own car. But a friend of mine decided she would be the namer of our friends’ cars, and she did that. She decided mine was Emilia because it’s curvy. I still call the car Emilia on occasion.

Well…

I had a Jetta named Harvey, a Toyota named “The Buick”, a Ford Tempo named The Tank, a Saturn named Sonic, and my current Saturns name is Tony.

Never considered this… :dubious:

I usually refer to mine as that piece of shit

I named my '95 Nissan Altima “Pertinax”, which is Latin for “stubborn”. The thing seems to need fixing every six months or so. Just when you think everything is OK, it goes haywire for some reason.

My 92 Buick Skylark was named Bucky. The letters for BUICK on the outside fell off one day and I picked them up and glued them (the I was missing)to the dashboard for fun.
When I got my 2002 Dodge Neon, she was all pretty and silver and brand new and SMALL, compared to the humongus Bucky. I named her Luna Solaris. I love driving her with Toddy the TaterTot (a stuffed Tater Tot…don’t ask) sitting up on the dash grinning at me.
