I’m not talking about things you buy, like stuff on ebay or from Amazon…or any bills you may pay via the internet…
…I’m talking about sites that you pay for to be a member or to get a certain premium-type account or certain perks that come with paying.
Obviously the SDMB will be on the list for some…
For me:
Pogo (I like being a club member)
Rapidshare (for various things)
Megavideo (for various things)
There’s a few games on Facebook that I pay for various perks (one requires membership).
Echo Bazaar (online game I pay to be a premium member)
Netflix (I don’t get the disks anymore, I have it only for the instant watching)
I was thinking about paying for Hulu as of late. It worth it?
What are the things you pay for to be a part of online?
lol, I can imagine what most posters are probably going to omit from their list of online “services” they subscribe to. I will stay classy and omit it as well.
Hrm, Paypal is actually a far more secure way to pay for things online. Instead of having 20 mofos with your card information, you have one well established and reasonably well trusted mofo. Not to say that paypal couldn’t go rogue at the drop of a hat once they reach a certain number of millions of accounts, but so could any bank if you really want to be paranoid. Even using a credit card in real life is a ton more risky, but I will leave that discussion for another thread.
On Topic:
Aside from all my bills and shopping, I have several different MMO accounts, the SDMB, and a pogo account. I did have a Neflix account and Hulu, but I cancelled them. Hulu was honestly not worth it to me since paying did not completely eliminate commercials, which are the primary reason that I look for shows online. I despise advertising in all forms.
ETA: I just realized that I pretty much advertised for Paypal and declared my undying hatred for advertising in the same post.
Pshaw. Paypal is just sitting there like a big ol’ bag of cash tied to a cartoon bulldog. Eventually some cat will come along with a pork chop and >zip!< there goes the loot.
Actually, I refuse to patronize Paypal for reasons entirely unrelated to security. I’m still not letting the mofos near my cash, though.
SDMB and then mostly games. I still have active subscriptions to EQII, Rift, Star Trek (although I bought the lifetime subscription so no current cost) The funny part about that is I haven’t played any of them in almost a month. EQII expires Christmas day and I’m not renewing that one, I’ll consider Rift, I really should find out when it auto renews.
I pay for here, though I think I payed for a few years and don’t even know when my subscription is up. I also have a subscription to Ancestry.com and Newspaper Archive.com both of which I use for my research.
And, if they count, Amazon Prime and Playstation Plus.
I think that’s it…no MMO’s, I stopped paying to be a member here, and the other online forum I post at only had a one-time reg. fee, and that was paid years ago.
I was about to say nothing, but then I remembered this site. I’m paid up so far in advance (currently through 2015) that I forget that I’m actually a paid member.
