I think we’ve all gotten over the fact that we now have to pay for this site, but I’m wondering what else you find online that is worth paying for?
I paid $20 for a subscription to www.zagat.com, a restaurant review site. I travel a lot, and like to eat good food. I don’t think I’ll renew it, though. The reviews aren’t that good.
I also paid $26 for www.consumerreports.org, which is (obviously) the Consumer Reports website. This one is definitely worth it. I am not one of those who is slavishly devoted to their reviews (I put way more value on style than they do), but I use it to screen out the bad stuff.
I subscribed to the Wall Street Journal online for a while, but dropped it.
I donate $5 monthly to Gaiaonline.com, which I don’t really know how to describe. I guess it counts as a forum. I also spend alarming (for me) amounts of money to customize my homepage.
I used to subscribe to RealOne’s Rhapsody (streaming music) service before I decided to invest the ten bucks per month toward new songs on iTunes after I got my iPod.
At least one or two dopers are subscribers on my own messageboard - although I haven’t seen one in ages and the other is a serial lurker.
I pay for my personal email address. It’s only $30 a year and it’s a pretty good service, I wanted to keep my email address, and best of all - no spam.
