What do you think of Lebron James new Nike commercial?

Pretty hot topic on the sports talk radio today. What do you think about it? Does it change your opinion or make you think about where he is coming from?

I’m sure I forgot options but I tried.

All I thought when I was watching it was…

“WAAAAAHHHHH I MAKE SO MUCH MONEEEEYYYYY…” And I couldn’t give a shit.

Lebron = unproven, undisciplined, overpaid and overhyped.

Heat = 3 “Superstar” egomaniac ball hogs (and 3 does not make a team!). At least watching Miami pour $ into these idiots and get nothing in return will be FUN!

Unclviny

I’m really a hybrid of the last two…
I couldn’t vote for bad commercial because I haven’t seen it, but I truly don’t give a shit anyway

Meh. I still have a hard time believing he cares that much about the public’s opinion.

I agree with most of what talk show host Jim Rhome said today:

I don’t think winning the NBA as Wade’s sidekick would rehabilitate James’ image like Rhome does. But who gives a shit?

I don’t follow the NBA and only barely know what is going on behind the commercial - but he came off as an asshole.

I will be sure not to buy Nike shoes from now on.

“What should I do?” Shut the fuck up and play basketball.

Jeez, what an attention whore.

Gosh. Am I really the only one who liked it? I didn’t really want to vote for “that’s deep” but it did make me think maybe the guy is not a total idiot and I liked the commercial. (sorry…)

Geez, Don Johnson is looking old.

Really? I thought he looked good actually.

I really don’t get all the hostility toward LeBron. Any time a big sport’s star leaves their team, they’re going to be bitter. I get that “The Decision” was a dick move on his part, and I can see how it would make Cleveland even more bitter and perhaps an apology was in order for that, but it’s too late now. But that part I really don’t get is why he’s now a villain, especially to people outside of Cleveland. Granted, I’m luke-warm about the NBA at best, but I also feel much the same about all the Favre crap and I’m a big football fan, but it doesn’t affect my team. Either way, it’s his career, and he made it clear that he’s more interested in winning a championship than money or loyalty. It’s not like he was holding out or begging to be traded; he fulfilled his contract and then took the offer that best fit his goals.

Either way, I kind of like the spot; it’s not great, but it’s not bad either. It just makes it clear to me that he’s not particularly interested about his image, he’s going to do what he wants to do, whether it’s popular or not. Personally, I’m not a big fan of his, as I agree that he’s overhyped, overpaid, a ball hog, and chokes in high pressure situations, but maybe that will change now that he isn’t the singular talent on his team anymore. Only time will tell.

I’m a Clevelander who doesn’t follow basketball all that closely, but I think he handled his decision to leave the Cavs pretty badly, and I understand why so many people around here are still pissed. That said, I liked the ad. Funny and serious at different times, and it had some arresting images.

He’s still a dick. What a self-serving and egomaniacal commercial

What he should have done is apologize, sincerely and profusely, for stabbing Cleveland in the face on national TV

This is just a guess, but I think the difference between those who think James is jerk and those who don’t is that fans of basketball teams - other than the Heat’s fans - think what he did to Cleveland and its fans is offensive, and that fans of James and Nike, no matter what team he’s on, think it isn’t.

I am a fan of basketball and not the Heat. I don’t think what he did to Cleveland was offensive. I think what a lot of professional athletes do to teams that built them (leave for money) is very sad, and has made sports a lot less interesting, but I can’t call it offensive.

I’m from Chicago, and I’m still pissed at him for all that endless media blithering about whether or not he was going to join the Bulls. It went on for way the fuck too long, and so does this commercial. It seemed goddamn endless.

What does anyone see in this idiot anyway? So he can play basketball good. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

Me too.

That’s because Cleveland fans got themselves all wrapped up in this fantasy that professional athletes have “loyalty” to teams anymore. Why? It’s a business, you buy them, they play for you, they win for you, and when they stop winning for you, you dump them. It’s a pretty fantasy, just like when you get your first boyfriend and imagine how you’re going to get married on the beach and have sooo many babies and the boy’s name will be Tom and the girl’s name will be Emma… but it’s all bullshit. What he did was egotistical, but the more drama wrapped up in the move the more attention the Heat gets and the more money he is likely to make. He would have been stupid to go quietly into Miami.
When a person becomes a brand, they are no longer playing for you. They are playing for themselves.

But we were hoping Lebron would be different. Break the mold. Say that he was making more than enough money where he was, so he was going to stay and win a championship. He was a hometown boy playing for the local team, which doesn’t happen all the time. But since he couldn’t even be bothered to be different and marry the mother of his kids, I don’t know why I thought that.

The line in the commercial that really stood out for me was the only one he seemed to “answer”…“Should I listen to my friends? They’re my friends!” No, they are a bunch of people who make their living off of you now.

And Don Johnson is so hot…
