What do your names mean?

In this thread I was wondering about the meaning and origin of the name ‘Hermione’. Then I got to wondering what my first and middle names meant.

I am ‘God is Gracious’, ‘Of Bright Fame’. Who are you?

Heh. The same as you.

Nickname: trust, faith

First name: Chaste, maiden
Middle name: glade, poet

I suppose that fits.

My first name means “she of the beautiful eyes”.
My middle name means “prayer”
My last name means “eternal joy”.

So it makes a sentence: “She of the beautiful eyes prays for eternal joy”.

No, they didn’t plan it or anything.

First name: Woman of strength
Last name: Branch
So I guess that makes me a strong branch. I think that’s pretty cool.

“Praised one” (which I knew) “bitterness” (WTF?!?!?!?!)

“Small” :dubious: “He Who Is Like God” “Son of Laughlin”.

My first name translates to a male name meaning “man”. My middle name means “blessed war.” My last name doesn’t come up. Fercrissakes.

“Princess” or “as a Rose”

“precious gem” or “red”

:smack:

I could have been PrincessRoseRed

First: Clear, Purity

Middle: “Dawn” … name and meaning are the same

Confirmation:“sea of bitterness”, “rebelliousness”, and “wished for child”

In fact, it’s probably none of those.
As for me?
First: “Field where rivers meet the ocean.” This is my favorite interpretation of my name and not the most literal. More accurate that way might be “beach,” since my name is MAR (sea) + LEY (meadow, clearing, field, etc).
Middle: I dislike the middle name I have because of its religious meaning; the one I’d like to take means “small and dark.” If it included ‘hairy,’ that’d be pretty accurate. :stuck_out_tongue:
Last: “Sailor.”

First name: “warrior from the island”
Middle name: “sword blade”
Last name: “maker of clothing”

I guess you have to watch out for me if there are scissors and other sharp objects lying around. :stuck_out_tongue:

Only if we’re on an island.

“Twin” “warlike, hammer” “barrel maker”

Sadly, my English name doesn’t have any meanings, and my Dad forgot what my Korean name means. I guess the closest my English name comes to is “Sun God.” That sounds about right.

User name: “mistress of the house” or “lady”

First name: “tree”

Middle name: “hairy”

Last name: “jewel” or “ornament” (son of)

Make of it what you will.

I always thought Meenakshi meant “with eyes shaped like a fish.” Not in a bulbous type way but the actual outline of a fish. I only know this because my relatives were were trying to get me and my sister named Meenakshi and Hiranakshi (I was still unnamed by the time my mom got pregnant with her) which would have meant “fish-eyed,” and “doe-eyed,” respectively (apparently so they could call us Meena and Hira…sooo lame). My parents sort of put the kibosh on that, though.

My first name, “Anagha,” means “the sinless one.”

My middle name is my father’s name (per tradition in our area of the country) and it means “ever holy.”

My last name means “scholar from the village of ____” (Town in Maharashtra)

My first name means, “from the holly tree”

anyone want to take a stab as to what it is?

From BehindTheName.comFirst name: Medieval name derived from Latin clarus “clear, bright, famous”. Middle name: “God has healed”.

Middle name: “Cascade or waterfall”

Maiden name: “Land where 2 rivers meet”
