What does it mean to 'Laverne and Shirley' something?

I was listening to the commentary on the Easy A dvd. At one point Emma Stone is referring to how, in the book The Scarlet Letter, Hester Pryne wore her ‘A’ sewn in the middle of the chest of her dresses, but in Easy A the filmmakers decided to go against that and have Olive (Emma Stone) wear hers off-center on her dresses. Emma Stone then says ‘We Laverne and Shirley-ed it a little bit.’

What does Laverne and Shirley have to do with putting the letter A off center on a dress?

Laverne and Shirley

ETA everything Laverne wore had the L off on the left side like that.

Now don’t you feel like a schlamiel for asking? Or is that a schlamozzle? in walk Lenny and Squiggy HELLO

That doesn’t make any sense to me. I’d take “L&S’ed” to mean lightened up, made humorous or at least not completely dark. Was the comment really referring just to the “A”?

Yes. She wore her A just like Laverne wore her L.

Okay thanks, question answered.
