Anyone know this song? Am I missing something really obvious? The song lyrics are a letter to a newspaper, and he signs it “Yours Truly, Confused, N10”? Anyone know what the N10 refers to?
It’s a postcode, which indicates the area from which the correspondent is writing. N10 specifically is Muswell Hill in North London.
UK residents, or actually London residents to be specific, sometimes use postcodes as a shorthand way of identifying an area - some of them are relatively well known, like SW19 as an identifier for Wimbledon in South London.
I should’ve realized it was an English thing–I’ve never encountered it before. Thanks for the quick answer.
So that’s where the Muswell Hillbilly boys come from. I did not know that.
Ray Davies was born in Muswell Hill.
