To me, it’s a hot dog frank wrapped in puff pastry.
To a friend of mine, it’s a kransky-style sausage wrapped in bacon. (I’d argue that this is far too posh to be a pig in a blanket. Though admittedly my version’s probably lowbrow enough to be a swine in a snuggie.)
My husband has never heard of the term.
Where I’m from in the UK pigs in blankets are chipolata sausages wrapped in bacon, usually eaten with turkey at Christmas.
I’m at a loss for words.
I have heard of it as something food related, but had no idea what it actually was.
Why?
I grew up in NW PA, and it was always cabbage rolls. My Dad was German/Polish and my Mom grew up in a heavily Slavic rural area. We didn’t have any tomato sauce, tho. I remember smashing up the boiled potatoes and dribbling the saucepan juice over it with a lot of butter. Og, that was some good food. Didn’t know it was any other food - this thread fought some ignorance today.
Pigs in a Blanket are Li’l Smokies wrapped in a crescent roll. L’il Smokies are miniature smoked sausages, not breakfast sausage or a hot dog.
Cabbage rolls. Grew up in Michigan with a 1/2 Polish father.

Don’t know if it’s mentioned upthread (and too lazy to go check
) But sometimes on the breakfast menu at restaurants, they’ll have “Pigs in the blanket” as link breakfast sausages wrapped in pancake batter, then fried. If they’re trying to be “fancy” about it, it’ll be blueberry pancake batter!
Stuffed cabbage it is.
Lil Smokies wrapped in crescent roll dough. Barring that, chunks of kielbasa or other smoked sausage stuck in biscuit dough. Southern US.
I just wanted to agree, I’ve never heard the name used to refer to something else.
I only eat them twice a year (Christmas and Easter family dinner) but they’re delicious.
A hot dog wrapped in a crescent roll. One of my kids favorites.
Specifically LITTLE hot dogs wrapped in a crescent roll. Not the full-sized ones you’d put on a hot dog bun or roast on a skewer over a campfire.
Yay! A fellow believer!
(Okay, so I said cocktail sausages. But at least you agree they’re supposed to be small.)
WHAT?! They’re not universally known as sausages wrapped in pancake? There is no God.
