What does "severely tailored" mean?

As in that former florida middle school teacher …to quote CNN…

Dressed in a severely tailored black pantsuit, Lafave said she had “innocent” physical contact with a female co-worker she knew as under age 18. …
I don’t want to go anywhere near the journalistic practice of why this tidbit of what she was wearing is supposed to be important.

I just don’t know what “severely tailored” means.

It’s a weird way of saying “fashion forward” or on the bleeding edge of style. Think “edgy” and possibly even avant-garde couture, as opposed to “off the rack at JC Penney.”

No, it isn’t. It more means “ultra conservative”. It looks like what a photographer would put a model in to portray a scowling, prudish librarian, middle aged no-nonsense lady judge, or school marm. It probably looked a lot like this or this, simple clean lines, very little or no ornamentation, such a suit can be quite elegant. See definition five of the word severe, and this definition for tailored. Often, very simple suits that are well made and fit well, cost more money also. Generally, it is thought that the person wearing such a suit is not to be trifled with, they want to be taken seriously/believed.

Yeah, that’s a much more detailed version of what I came in here to say. Think Lilith Sternin-Crane, or Nora Dunn in one of her ball-breaking-lesbian characters.

I think we need pictures of this. Perhaps video.

Grrrrrrrrrrowl.

I agree with Zabali_Clawbane. “Severely tailored” (to me) means not frilly, not feminine, not sexy. No cleavage or legs. Probably black.
